Chapter 45
Chapter 45
Terrence was well aware of the situation, mentioning the project and excusing himself for other engagements. He left first, leaving Mason to express gratitude to Rosemary.
Rosemary looked at her husband's retreating figure, her eyes moistening.
She turned to Mason and said, "Mason, you probably don't know this, but in the early years, Terrence had an affair and even considered divorcing me. At that time, no one in high society respected me.
"Once, at an event, I met Zoe. She was only 15 or 16 at the time but knew how to cheer people up. When she accompanied Terrence, she wore a beautiful dress and danced ballet in a quiet corner to lift my spirits. You don't know how long it had been since I had genuinely laughed. I was filled with despair."
Rosemary finished speaking with a faint smile, "Forgive me for unloading on you."
As she left, her figure looked lonely yet proud. Even though she held the position of Mrs. Abbott now and her husband respected her, she understood that someone like her was always walking on thin ice.
She also knew Zoe was in a difficult situation, so she offered a helping hand. Mason still stood in the same spot. He knew that with Rosemary's support, the project was almost guaranteed. However, his mind was not on the billion-dollar project but on Zoe.
'Zoe says she feels oppressed and doesn't want to be Mrs. Lockwood. Is this how she feels? Is she disappointed in me and fell out of love?'
However, Rosemary had to fight the entire Abbott family while Zoe did not even want him.
…
Zoe came out of the restroom around half past nine, thinking it was time to leave. She was deep in thought and almost collided with someone at the entrance. When she looked up, it turned out to be Gregory.
They were close, close enough for Gregory to smell the fragrance of her perfume. It was a faint scent of oranges. Zoe wanted to walk around him but was caught by him. His warm fingertips touched her delicate waist.
Zoe raised her head. In her eyes, there was a hint of surprise and shock.
Gregory quickly let her go, but when he withdrew his hand, he could not help but to gently tighten his fingers briefly, feeling the slight warmth that belonged to Zoe.
However, his words were cold and biting. "What's this? After suffering with the common people for a few days, do you find it more comfortable to be Mrs. Lockwood again? Have you decided to return to Mason?"
Zoe did not pretend anymore. She straightforwardly countered, "Gregory, you promised not to make things difficult for me. What is this now?"
She pointed it out, stopping there. When she left, she heard Gregory's voice from behind.
"Zoe, I can give you what Mason gives you and more."
Zoe paused. After a while, she spoke softly, "Thank you for your kindness! But, Gregory, I don't want it."
She left, leaving Gregory standing alone. Under the crystal chandelier, his handsome face was illuminated. He felt like he must be crazy to say such things to his childhood friend's wife.
He told Zoe to get together with him.
Gregory soon left the restroom.
Unnoticed, Rosemary stood at the corner of the stairs. From start to finish, she heard everything. She held onto the staircase railing, almost fainting. Gregory had actually fallen for a married woman, and that woman was Zoe.Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
