Chapter 45 I’m Helping Myself, Not You
“knock, knock, knock.”
There was a knock on the door.
Iverson raised his eyes slightly and saw the woman behind Jamie.
A refreshing blue and white color barged into his sight. Under the blue high-waisted jeans was a white lantern-sleeved shirt. She carried a simple, mature, intellectual, and elegant beige bag.
“Mr. Byran.”
Her polite greeting ruined Iverson’s good mood as soon as she opened her mouth. Iverson frowned slightly.
Amanda entered the office, and Jamie tactfully closed the door behind her.
“Mr. Byran, I’m here to thank you. Thank you for helping me.”
“That’s all right. I’m not helping you. I’m helping myself.”
“Huh?” Amanda was confused.
Iverson asked, “What’s your plan for the future?”
Amanda thought Iverson was asking about her work, so she said thoughtfully, “Although I’ve left the Sean Group. Since I signed the project with the Byran Group, I’ll still be in charge of checking the project. You can rest assured.”
“That’s not what I’m asking.”
With a loud smack, Iverson closed the documents in his hands and stared at Amanda grimly. “When do you plan to marry me?” he asked straightforwardly.
Amanda was stunned. “Mr. Byran, I…”
“I told you, when no one else is around, you can call me Iverson.”
Iverson’s tone made Amanda at a loss. She took a sudden step back, but he grabbed her and pulled her into his broad arms. “Why are you running? It’s perfectly reasonable for you to be with me now, isn’t it?”
“Let go of me.” Amanda tried to break free.
However, Iverson held her even tighter and leaned closer to her. His breath brushed past the woman’s earlobe. “Aren’t you always curious about why I want to marry you?”
Amanda’s nerves were also trembling. She panicked, “I don’t want to know anymore. Let me go.”
Iverson continued saying, “I’ve been waiting for this day.”
Amanda was stunned.
What did he mean that he had been waiting for this day?
At this moment, the office door was suddenly pushed open from the outside.
“Iverson!”
A woman’s soft voice came from the door, but she widened her eyes when she saw the scene in front of her. “You… you!”
The comer was none other than Lydia. When she saw that Iverson was holding a woman in his arms, the smile on her face froze.
Amanda came back to her senses and broke free abruptly.
Iverson looked at the door unhappily.
The secretary rushed in and said, “Mr. Byran, I didn’t stop her. Miss Ginos insisted on breaking in.”
“Is the door of our group a decoration? There are so many doors. How did she break in?”
His cold voice echoed in the office, and the secretary’s face turned pale with fear.
Lydia immediately said, “Iverson, Grandma asked me to deliver lunch to you. I didn’t expect you to have a guest here. I’m sorry for not knocking on the door.”
The word “guest” was deliberately emphasized by Lydia as if she was eager to emphasize something.
Amanda said in a low voice, “I’m leaving.”
“Wait.” Iverson grabbed her wrist. “I didn’t ask you to leave.”
Amanda raised her head in surprise.
“Why is it you?” Lydia immediately saw the woman’s appearance, and her anger immediately surged. “Aren’t you the general manager of the Sean Group? What are you doing?”
Amanda was so embarrassed that she wanted to find a hole to hide in. However, even if there was, Iverson held her tightly, preventing her from doing so.
Iverson glanced at Lydia coldly and asked, “What did grandma ask you to send?”
Lydia gritted her teeth but maintained a smile in front of Iverson. She raised the insulated lunchbox in her hand and said, “Grandma was afraid that you wouldn’t be able to eat well, so she asked me to bring you lunch.”
“Put it down.”This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
Lydia forced out a reply. In front of Amanda, she opened the lunch boxes. She said, “Iverson, these are all made according to your taste, especially this soup. It was taught to me by grandma. Try it quickly.”
“Is that so? Then you should try it.”
Before Lydia could show off her happiness, Iverson shoved his chopsticks into Amanda’s hands in front of her. “You haven’t eaten, have you? Try it.”
Amanda was stunned, and so was Lydia. Seeing the awkward situation, the secretary at the door took two steps back in silence.
Amanda said, “No need. I’m busy. I…”
“If Iverson wants you to try it, then go ahead and try it. Anyway, I’ve prepared a lot.” Lydia pretended to be generous and looked at Amanda with a fake smile.
Amanda could only bite the bullet and pick up a piece of meat.
“Miss Jewell, what do you think of the taste?”
“Pretty good.”
Amanda didn’t taste it at all and put down her chopsticks. “I’d better…”
“Since it’s to your taste, then eat more,” Iverson cut Amanda off before she could finish her sentence.
Amanda’s expression immediately froze.
Lydia, on the other hand, had a look of disbelief. “Iverson, I made this myself. How could you give it to her?”
“Why can’t I?”
Lydia retorted with a simple question. She was so angry. She glared at Amanda and asked, “Miss Jewell, do you like my cooking that much?”
Amanda immediately denied it. “No, no. Actually, these are not my favorite dishes.”
“Indeed.” Iverson glanced at her. “The dishes are average.”
Amanda waved her hand at Lydia. “That’s not what I meant…”
Lydia’s face turned green as she gritted her teeth, “Isn’t that what you mean? What else can you mean?”
Amanda was speechless. She was really innocent.
“This is Iverson’s idea! What the hell is he trying to do? He doesn’t like women who suck up to him, so he doesn’t have to use me as a shield, does he?”
“I really have something else to do. I’ll leave first.”
Amanda left decisively. This time, she didn’t let Iverson catch her. She kept a long distance from him before bidding him farewell. “Mr. Byran, I will treat the project seriously. Don’t worry.”
Looking at her retreating figure, Iverson raised an eyebrow.
Lydia said grumpily, “Amanda is just like the rumors say. He hooked up with a man for business. Iverson, don’t be fooled by her. She has a bad reputation in the industry.”
Iverson glanced at her and said, “I remember telling you not to come to my company.”
Lydia bit the bullet and said, “But Grandma sent me here to deliver lunch this time.”
“Miss Ginos, let me remind you, Grandma can’t make decisions for me.”
Iverson’s apartness demeanor completely differed from how he treated Amanda during dinner.
Lydia’s heart sank.
