The Billionaire’s Pretend Fiancée

Tension

Roman’s POV

The conversation that had just transpired between Sofie and I felt surreal-in a very horrible way.

I couldn’t believe everything she had said.

I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that she was trying to figure out my own feelings for me. I mean I didn’t expect her to grant me her forgiveness, and take me back with open arms when I confessed my feelings to her, but I wasn’t expecting her to tell me to my face that she couldn’t reciprocate my feelings either.

I mean, what else was I supposed to deduce her insistence that I wasn’t in love with her as? I balled my hands into fists as I trekked into my office, and saw the cause of the problem sitting comfortably on the desk like she didn’t just ruin everything between Sofie and I.

I didn’t utter a word to her as I spoke into the intercom, “Send security in here right now. There is a nuisance in my office.”

Lana scoffed as she climbed down from the desk, “I’m a nuisance now, huh? But you didn’t know that when you dated me, did you?”

“Dating you was the worst mistake I ever made in my life. I wish I could turn back time and erase that horrible moment from my life.” I said coldly, which made her huff incredulously.

“You fucking son of a gun, I was a mistake? How exactly was I mistake? I was a fucking treasure who everyone wanted yet you just broke up with me on our fucking anniversary like I was nothing but a whore you just picked from the streets without even taking a moment to think about how it’d have hurt me. You were the problem in our relationship, Roman and you will always be!” She yelled and this time, it was my turn to huff.

“It’s funny how I thought you’d have changed, and learned to admit you were the problem in our relationship but I guess I must have overestimated you. We both know I was never in love with you and I only dated you because the media and your company’s management wanted it yet I was still willing to give us a chance but you ruined everything. You know what I’m talking about, stop pretending to be clueless!” I retorted harshly, just in time for the security guards to walk in.

They bowed to me before making to escort Lana out of the room, “Stay the fuck away from me, I have two functioning legs and I know my way out.” She spat before glaring at me.

“I’ll come back for you very soon. That stupid bitch that doesn’t know her place will be gone from both our lives and you will be mine again, just wai-”

I darted the guards a menacing snarl, “Why is she still here? Drag her out this instant before you both become jobless!” One of the guards yanked Lana by her arm while the other grabbed her bag.

As they dragged her out, she still kept dishing out empty threats, “You think you’ve seen the last of me, huh? This is just the start, you will be mine so-” Her voice diminished, as the door slammed shut and I heaved a deep sigh of relief.

Now back to Sofie, how was I going to get her trust again? How was I going to make her believe that I was really in love with her?” Fuck, I really ruined our relationship before it even began. I had no idea how I was supposed to face her when I got home? I exhaled heavily as the image of her tear-laden eyes crossed my mind.

I hated myself so much for being the cause of her tears, I badly wished to ram my head into the wall at that moment but I restrained myself. This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

Instead, I settled on punching the standing mirror next to my swivel chair.

I watched with manic satisfaction, as blood trickled down my knuckles and stained the floor.

I deserved to be punished just like this for making my love cry.

I wasn’t even aware of Nathan’s presence until I heard him gasp behind me, “Your hand, sir.”

I turned to face him with a pleased smile as I stared at my bloody hand, “I see it. Take care of my remaining meetings for the day and make sure the mirror is replaced before tomorrow. I’m heading home.” I said, picking up my phone, car keys and briefcase.

He bowed, “Noted, sir.” Throughout the elevator ride to the parking lot, various thoughts assailed my mind as I thought about Sofie for the umpteenth time that afternoon.

I wondered what she was up to at that moment.

My mind remained unsettled throughout the short yet agonizing drive back home, and I almost got flagged down and fined for driving above the speed limit.

“Where is Sofie?” That was the first thing I asked Antonio when I got home.

He seemed perplexed at my unhinged behavior but he answered regardless, “She’s upstairs, sir.” I nodded before jogging up the stairs to the bedroom.

When I finally came face to face with the door, nervousness suddenly settled in my throat, almost making it difficult to breathe but I repressed the feeling, twisted the doorknob open and went in.

As I stepped foot in the room, Sofie trekked out of the bathroom, looking pale and sickly. Was she feeling ill again? I thought to myself as she stared at me with an unreadable expression before her gaze dropped to my wounded hand.

“What happened to your hand?” She asked, moving closer to me and it made me feel slightly relieved because it almost felt like everything was fine between us again.

“It was a small accident.” I lied, looking into her eyes and willing her to meet my gaze. “Take off your coat and sit down on the bed. I’ll be back with the first aid kit.” She instructed, ignoring the heated stare I had on her before disappearing into the walk-in closet.

She walked out, holding a first aid kit that I didn’t even know was in there, “Natalie gave it to me the day after I came here.” She explained, as if somehow reading my thoughts.

“Oh.” I said, not sure of how else to respond.

The ambiance of the room was awkward and tense as Sofie disinfected the cut, I suddenly had no idea of how to begin a conversation.

“Would you have told me?” She whispered, breaking the silence.

“About what?” I asked, staring at her face.

“If I didn’t come to your office today, would you have told me that you kissed her?”

“Of course.” I truthfully answered. “I would have.”

I wouldn’t be able to hide it from her, I couldn’t keep anything from her and I’d rather she heard it from me instead of someone else.

She finally raised her head to gaze at me as she taped a band-aid to the cut, “Okay, that’s what I wanted to know. I’m done with your hand, make sure you keep it away from water when you take a shower.”

“Alright, thanks.” I muttered, standing up from the bed as she did the same.

I suppressed the urge to pull her into a hug as she went to put the first aid kit back into the closet.

“Sofie.” I called as she trekked out, and she just darted me a stare but remained quiet.

“I’m sorry and I want you to know that I meant every bit of my confession.” I muttered, inching closer to her and daring to hold her hand.

She stared downward at our intertwined hands and mumbled, “You’ve had a long day, you should take a shower and get some rest.” before withdrawing her hand from my hold.

I pretended I wasn’t hurt by nodding, “Yeah, you’re right.”

“I’m heading downstairs.” She whispered before exiting the room without looking in my direction.

Huffing heavily, I peeled my clothes off before strolling into the bathroom.

I hoped things between us became normal again.
