Nelson’s voice trembled as he called out, his words echoing . “How’s Morris Corporation, Ms. Jackson?”
“No news from them yet,” Ms. Jackson replied, her voice filled with an eerie calm.
“H-How can this be?” Nelson stuttered, fear creeping into his tone. “If we don’t finish it before the deadline, we’ll have to pay fines!”
Nelly, a werewolf with cunning instincts, pondered for a moment before offering a solution. “I’ll call her and remind her, then.”
“Good, good,” Nelson responded, his voice filled with desperation. “I’m leaving this to you.” With that, he abruptly ended the call, leaving a sense of uncertainty hanging in the air.
Nelly wasted no time and dialed Lara’s number, the sound of it ringing echoing through the darkness. After a few rings, Lara finally picked up, her voice laced with irritation. “Hello? What’s the matter?”
“Our outline for the project is almost complete,” Nelly stated firmly. “I want to meet up with you to discuss how to proceed.”
“I’m in the hospital right now. I don’t have time,” Lara replied dismissively.
“We need to meet, regardless,” Nelly insisted. “Without your input, my side won’t be able to finish before the deadline.”
Lara’s response was cold and indifferent. “That doesn’t sound like my problem.”
Frustrated by Lara’s lack of cooperation, Nelly threatened, “If you aren’t willing to meet, I’ll just go and find Alpha Kilian.”
Lara, realizing the severity of the situation, hesitated. “Wait,” she uttered, her voice barely above a whisper.
Alpha Kilian, Nelly’s last hope for salvaging the project, held immense power over Lara. Sensing Lara’s wavering resolve, Nelly pressed further. “Is there anything else?”
“I really am busy at the hospital right now,” Lara finally relented. “How about I send someone to meet you?”
“Do it immediately,” Nelly demanded, her patience wearing thin. “If you cause any delay, I’ll go and find Alpha Kilian right away.”
Lara refused to back down, her pride shining through her words. “Don’t threaten me, Nelly.”
Nelly, undeterred, responded with a calm confidence. “I’m not threatening you, I’m simply reminding you.” With that, she ended the call, knowing that Lara was more anxious than she let on.
True to her expectations, Lara’s message arrived shortly after. Nelly’s eyes narrowed as she read the text: “I’ve made the arrangements. Go and meet the deputy general manager at Morris Corporation tonight. He’ll personally discuss the matter with you.”
A sly smile tugged at Nelly’s lips as she sent back a short reply: “Okay.”
Internally, Nelly grumbled about having to deal with Lara’s interference. If Lara were out of the picture, Nelly knew she could handle the project with ease. She longed for a smoother journey, free of Lara’s presence.
Just then, Chris, another werewolf, approached her. “What’s up?”
“We’re going to Morris Corporation tonight for a project discussion,” Nelly replied, her voice tinged with annoyance.
“Why tonight?” Chris questioned, sensing the hidden motive behind Lara’s timing.
“If I guessed correctly,” Nelly mused, “it’s because she wants to prevent Alpha Kilian from meeting me.” Sighing, she added, “I don’t want to speculate on her thoughts, but Lara’s intentions are often too transparent.”
Chris smiled knowingly. “So, are you still going?”
Nelly smirked, her confidence unwavering. “Awkwardness doesn’t exist if one doesn’t acknowledge it. As long as I don’t perceive it as awkward, the only one feeling uncomfortable will be the other person.”
“Touche,” Chris acknowledged, offering her a thumbs up before departing.
Nelly chose to focus on her work, ignoring the lingering thoughts of Lara’s actions. Deep down, she knew that as long as she played her cards right, the project would be a success, regardless of Lara’s interference.
Meanwhile, in the shadows, Lara was well-aware of Nelly’s plans to visit Morris Corporation that night. Determined to keep Alpha Kilian away from Nelly, she devised a plan of her own.
The successful outcome of Harry’s operation had eased some of her worries, and she was ready to execute her plan earlier than expected. With a sense of urgency, she called Alpha Kilian, her voice filled with a hint of anticipation.
“Do you have time tonight, Alpha Kilian?” she inquired.
“What’s up?” Alpha Kilian replied, his tone revealing curiosity.
“I’ve told you a few days ago, there’s something I want to discuss with you, and I want to do it tonight.”
Alpha Kilian glanced at the time, contemplating his options. “What time?”
“Eight in the evening,” Lara answered firmly.
“Okay, send me the meeting location,” Alpha Kilian consented.
“All right. See you then,” Lara confirmed.
With the call ended, Lara stared at her phone, a glimmer of determination in her eyes. Someone has to take the initiative, she thought. If no one else is willing, then it falls upon me.
There was only one thing she desired – recognition as Alpha Kilian’s wife. She no longer wished to wait idly by.
With that resolve in mind, she turned her attention to her mother, Caroline, who sat in the hospital room. “Mom, I have something to take care of today,” she informed. “I may not be able to come to the hospital tonight, so I’ll be counting on you to take care of Dad.”
Caroline smiled understandingly. “It’s alright. Your dad’s feeling much better now. There’s no need for you to keep rushing back and forth. Just go and do what you need to do.”
Lara nodded gratefully. “I’ll head back now to prepare.”
Caroline motioned for them to step outside the room to have a private conversation.
Once they were in the corridor, Caroline examined her daughter, a knowing smile spreading across her face. “You’ve lost weight after taking care of your father. You looked pale. Go freshen up and make yourself presentable. I believe you’ll succeed.”
Lara was taken aback, realizing her mother’s understanding of the situation. “Mom…,” she murmured, feeling a mix of gratitude and embarrassment.
“It doesn’t matter who takes the first step,” Caroline reassured. “What truly matters is whether he has feelings for you.”
Lara confessed her worries. “I’m quite anxious, actually…”
Caroline pondered for a moment before offering words of wisdom. “When it comes to men, sometimes a little charm can work wonders. I can tell Alpha Kilian is not the type to be irresponsible. Besides, my daughter is stunning. There’s no way he won’t be captivated by you.”Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
Lara gazed at her mother, gratitude swelling within her. She found solace in the fact that her mother understood her so well, even without explicitly stating her desires.
“Mom…” Lara whispered, her voice filled with love.
“Go,” Caroline urged, her eyes shining with anticipation. “I’ll be waiting for your good news.”
Lara nodded, determination burning within her, before she left to return to her own abode.
Once home, she entered the bathroom, ready to prepare herself for the night ahead. As she stood in front of the mirror, naked and vulnerable, she contemplated her mother’s words. Tricks, she thought, men sometimes need a little push. Love alone is sometimes not enough.
With her thoughts spinning, she picked up her phone and sent a message to Alpha Kilian: “I’m feeling a little sick right now, Alpha Kilian. Can you come to my house instead?”
As she awaited his response, she busied herself with cleaning up, and with each passing minute, her anticipation and worry grew. It was a risky move, but she was determined to seize this opportunity.
For Lara, the ends justified the means, as long as she received what she desired – Alpha Kilian’s heart.
