Chapter 376

I did a double take.
Alexa was dressed in a yellow and black dress that clung to all her curves like a glove. She was
dressed to attract attention like a moth to a flame. I had no idea what to make of her unexpected
appearance to begin with.
I had no idea she even knew about Sofia’s art launch, but then again, the news had spread like wild fire
through the mafia, so that could explain why she was here.
My main concern right now, was why she was currently here.
She was standing before a few large paintings hanging off one side of the wall. A few people were also
checking out the paintings as well, but it was obvious that unlike Alexa, those people didn’t come here
alone.
I glanced around for Sofia and puffed out a small breath on seeing her talking with one of the ministers
of the company and his wife about one of her paintings, with her two guards standing a few feet away
from her. She was being thoroughly guarded which was just right.
Taking that as my cue, I desecretly made my way towards Alexa, but with the way everyone’s eyes
followed me, I knew I wasn’t being as descrect as I’d hoped. I stopped beside Alexa while staring
straight at the painting, and as expected, Alexa noticed me instantly.
A smile broke out on her face as she whirled around to face me. I lifted a hand which had been deep in
my pockets a few moments ago, in order to stop her from trying to hug me, and I almost rolled my eyes
when she pouted at me next.
I cut straight to the point.
“What are you doing here, Alexa.”
Alexa rolled her eyes this time and shot the painting up on the wall a fleeting look before gesturing
towards it with her hand.
“Enjoying this art exhibition, obviously.” She finally responded but I only snorted at that.
“Cut the crap, Alexa. You don’t give a flying fuck about art.”
She giggled at that, and then she slanted me a coy look. “So you do remember my likes and dislikes,
that’s actually really surprising.” She pointed out and I scowled at her pointedly.
I glanced around for a few moments, a few people were blatantly watching us, while some were trying
to not be obvious. I didn’t want any stupid rumors flying around, so I’m going to have to make this
quick.
“Don’t try anything stupid, Alexa.” I finally warned and she rolled her eyes at that.
“What do you take me for? I’m not doing a thing!” She defended and I nodded tensely.
“Good.”
“Besides, I can share just fine. I don’t mind.” She continued and when I shot her a glare, she giggled
and claimed to only be pulling my legs.
Not knowing what to say next, I end up turning around and making my way back outside. James found
me a few minutes later and instantly noticed the stress on my face.
“Alexa is in there.” I said and the shock on his face was so visible almost immediately.
“Shit. Did you invite her over?” He demanded and I narrowed my eyes on him.
“Why the hell would I do that?“
“Why the fuck is she here then?” He asked and I ran my hand over my face in frustration.
“Said she loves art and some other crap but I know that’s just bullshit.”
“Let’s just hope she doesn’t try anything stupid.” James murmured after that and i grimaced.
“I would hope not, I already warned her against that.” I explained and James exhaled.
“That’s great then.”
I waited a few beats before staring at him intently as I spoke. “So, when are you going to tell me about
what’s currently happening in your life?”
He blinked at me in faux shock, the nerve of James is completely unmatchable.
“What? Nothing’s ever happening in my life and you know that. Just, the same old boring shit over and
over again.” He responded, but for some unknown reasons, I didn’t believe him.
“I don’t believe you, and don’t bother denying it because I won’t buy it, so spill it out already.”
He exhaled deeply after I had spoken and glanced at his fingers for a few moments before speaking.
“You know what? We can’t do this right now. Let’s talk again this some other time.”
I narrowed my eyes at him. “Don’t try to change the subject, we can talk about it just fine right now.”
“No, we can’t, because it’s very complicated. A lot complicated than I had even anticipated to begin
with.” He responded softly and I stared at him pointedly for a few long seconds, and then I gave in.
“Fine. We can talk about it later.” I grumbled out and he slanted me a wide grin right before he bumped
his shoulder against mine for a moment.
Travis came to join us a few minutes later and the conversation instantly shifted to a different topic
immediately.
People were filling in and out of the hall like it was a party of a celebrity. I honestly hadn’t expected the
turn up to be this massive.
From the little while I had spent inside the hall, the little I had seen people haggle over a particular
painting, I was sure Sofia was going to make a whole lot of money from this. The prices on each
painting wasn’t a small price to begin with, and people were even fighting over who’d buy each.
It was a good thing I had thought of getting her a manager for this that was going to take care of that
part entirely.
I was passing orders to the heads of each guards section at the far end of the corner when James
motioned me over to come check something out, he was standing at the entrance of the hall. I moved
towards him after dismissing the guards, and then I glanced towards the direction in which he was
motioning to with a tilt of his head.
I felt something slowly die inside of me as I took in the scene James had motioned to.
It was Sofia in a flowing, elegant looking baby blue dress, laughing and discussing God knows what,
with none other than Alexa.
“Shit.”
