Chapter 33 Evelyn Is His Ex-girlfriend
Chapter 33 Evelyn Is His Ex-girlfriend
"Nothing." Alexia smiled bitterly. "In Chaim’s mind, I’m nothing compared to Evelyn. So, if he wants to get back together with Evelyn, he will definitely divorce me."
"Grandpa Rocco won’t permit it though."
"It doesn’t matter whether or not Grandpa Rocco will permit it. There’s only one thing for certain." Alexia breathed in and out in frustration. "If Chaim really wants a divorce, Grandpa Rocco can't stop him."
Chaim wasn’t willing to marry Alexia in the first place. And the only reason they got married was Grandpa Rocco ordered it. Chaim didn't want to disappoint Grandpa Rocco, so he begrudgingly agreed. However, if Chaim really wanted to get a divorce. Grandpa Rocco couldn't stop him.
"Ms. Alexia, you mustn’t overthink. Plus, I believe Mr. Lancaster isn’t an unreliable man," Aunt Song comforted her.
Alexia was moving the fruit around her plate, not eating. "I want to believe that too, but I am terrified and worried now."
Even though Chaim promised to have a baby last night, if he wanted a divorce, he would get one even if she had a child.
"I don't really know what Mr. Lancaster has been thinking." Aunt Song shook her head. The small grudge she had against Chaim deep inside her growing ever so slightly.
Over the past three years, Aunt Song had seen what Ms. Alexia had been through, and how Mr. Lancaster treated Alexia. If she were honest, had Mr. Lancaster been a sensible man, he wouldn’t divorce a wife as good as Alexia. What had Alexia asked for in her life? She wanted a husband who loved her, and Mr. Lancaster didn't fit that requirement at all.
"Ms. Alexia, eat your breakfast now, before it turns cold. As for Mr. Lancaster, you don't need to worry. I think Grandpa Rocco will have a talk with his grandson soon and he would never let him do something so unreasonable." Aunt Song handed the fork back to Alexia and told her to have breakfast.
"Grandpa Rocco?" Alexia picked at the oatmeal in her bowl, looking surprised. "Does Grandpa Rocco know Chaim has been seeing Evelyn?"
Aunt Song felt guilty and rubbed her hands on her apron. "Yes, I told him last night, and he was furious about it."
"What did Grandpa Rocco say?" Alexia looked at Aunt Song intensely.
"He said little, just that he would handle the whole thing. He also asked me not to tell you, but I didn't expect you would read the news about Evelyn."
"Alright then." Alexia calmed down and began eating.
She honestly didn't expect Grandpa Rocco could do much to help her. But, for the moment, only Grandpa Rocco could help her. She hoped with all her heart that Grandpa Rocco would stop Chaim from getting back with Evelyn.
After breakfast, Alexia left for work, remembering to bring the file.
When she arrived, many people were still looking at her, but not as many as there had been, and none were whispering as she passed. Alexia didn't care one way or another, and she took the elevator up to her floor and strode toward Chaim’s office.
"Mr. Lancaster," she called, knocking.
"Come in," Chaim replied from behind the door.
Alexia opened the door and went inside. "I brought the donation agreement."
She handed the file to him with both hands.
Chaim put down the pen and took the file, flipping back to the last page of the file. Seeing her signature on the file, there was a strange feeling for just a moment, then it was gone and everything was normal.
"Go and meet the new secretaries. They’re all elites from the headquarters of the Lancaster Group and are far more qualified than the previous ones. You can learn a lot from them," Chaim said, putting the donation agreement in a drawer.
"Alright." Alexia nodded slightly. "I’ll go back to work then."
"Wait, a minute."
"Yes?" Alexia stopped. "Is there something else, Mr. Lancaster?"
Chaim pulled out a flash drive from the computer and handed it to her. "There’s information about cooperation plan with the Swift Group on this. Please deliver this to them."
"To the Swift Group?" Alexia looked at the flash drive and carefully put it in her pocket, afraid to lose it.
Chaim nodded. "The Swift Group took the initiative and sought a partnership. I had already read their files and I think it’s a good fit. So, I made some modifications to their plan. Tell them, if they find it reasonable, come meet me tomorrow and have a detailed talk."
"Of course." Alexia nodded and turned around to leave.
As soon as she left, she saw Grandpa Rocco striding angrily toward her, his housekeeper and a few tall and strong guards following him.
Alexia looked around, and after she confirmed no one was there, she addressed him freely. "Grandpa Rocco, why are you here?"
Grandpa Rocco smiled at her gently. "I’m here to meet Chaim, and you’re here…"
Grandpa Rocco looked at her in her professional suit, curious.
Alexia straightened her dress and tried to sound professional. "Grandpa Rocco, I work for Mr. Lancaster as a secretary."
"Really? You work for him as a secretary?"
"Yes."
"That's great. He’s the president and you’re the secretary. Wife and husband working together!" Grandpa Rocco laughed happily.
However, his happiness didn’t last long. "Only a stranger calls him Mr. Lancaster, and you are his wife, so you shouldn't address him as such."
"Grandpa Rocco, I can't do that. I work in the company and I should follow the rules." Alexia looked down in shame. All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
The housekeeper smiled and replied. "She’s right, Mr. Rocco. They work in the same company, and they know what they are doing. You shouldn’t worry about them. They may even enjoy the formalities."
"Do you?" Grandpa Rocco looked at her slyly.
Alexia blushed and wasn’t sure how to respond. "Sort of…"
Of course not! They were not interested in doing it at all! In the company, they were in a normal leader- member relation, there was nothing else between them. However, Grandpa Rocco believed what the housekeeper said, so he was happy.
"That's great! Alexia, you can go back to your work now if you are busy. I need to speak with Chaim right now, and the three of us can have dinner together tonight."
"Of course." Alexia gave him a big smile, but in her mind she couldn’t stop wondering why Grandpa Rocco was there.
Maybe he was coming to talk with Chaim about Evelyn, as Aunt Song had mentioned.
"Grandpa Rocco?" Hearing the door being opened without his permission, Chaim was about to be angry, but when he looked up, he saw Grandpa Rocco.
Chaim stood up in surprise. "You should be resting in the mountain home. Why are you here?"
Grandpa Rocco wasn’t happy, at least not as happy as he had been while talking with Alexia. "I heard Evelyn came back. Is that true?"
The news surprised him. "Who told you this?"
‘Did Alexia tell him?'
"It doesn't matter who told me. Just answer my question. Yes or no?" Grandpa Rocco said, sitting in the soft chair the housekeeper brought over for him.
Chaim sat down too, face to face with Grandpa Rocco. "Yes."
"Why didn't you tell me?" Grandpa Rocco slammed his fist on the armrest, his anger palpable.
Chaim frowned, "It wasn’t a big deal, so I didn’t believe I needed to tell you."
"You have the gall to think you can decide what is and isn’t important to tell me? How dare you not tell me? You were afraid I wouldn’t let you meet her again." Grandpa Rocco sneered at him.
Chaim wasn’t happy, but he knew better than to say anything.
"So, I am right then. Chaim, did you think that just because you’ve been in charge of the Lancaster Group for a few years, you don't have to respect me anymore? You dare try to disobey me?" Grandpa Rocco pointed at Chaim, his finger quivering in anger.
