Chasing Back My Ex-wife

Chapter 17

Chapter 17

"Haven't we planned this long ago?" Jenson blocked her way and said in his rich voice, "It won't take long, just one hour! You promised me half a month ago. You can't just stand me up like this, can you?"

Lizbeth pushed him away in annoyance. "Stop it. I really have something urgent to do today. Find someone else to pick out a car with you!" This material belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

With that, she rushed down the stairs in her three-inch high heels.

Mr. Byrd put down his teacup. "Lizbeth, are you going out?"

"Yes," Lizbeth responded absentmindedly and ordered a servant, "Hurry, drive my car to the front!"

"Since you're in such a hurry, I'll drive you there." Jenson walked to her side with a hand in his pocket. He put an arm around her shoulders and said laughingly, "I'm an ace at driving. I'll surely be faster than you driving yourself!"

"How many times have I told you? We're adults now, so stop being all touchy with me. I can get there myself. Stop following me, you're so annoying!" Lizbeth struggled out of his hold, put on her sunglasses, and stalked outside.

Jenson's eyes dimmed for a moment, but his smile grew wider. "What's the hurry? You're going to meet Arthur, aren't you?"

"It's none of your business!" Lizbeth's voice came from farther and farther away.

Jenson watched her leave as a slight expression of dejection came over his attractive face.

"Jenson!" Mr. Byrd sighed. "As you can see, Lizbeth only cares about Arthur! So don't keep wasting your time on her!"

"I know what I'm doing. Don't worry, Mr. Byrd." Jenson blinked cheekily.

...

At the headquarters of Johnson Group.

The Bentley stopped in front of the company's entrance. Then, the driver got off and opened the door with a bow.

Arthur got out of the car, then pulled Lucy out after him. He whispered a warning in her ear, "Listen to me and I'll take you back to your office soon."

Lucy gave a reluctant snort and let him tug her along.

It was half past eight in the morning, the exact time for everyone to go to work.

"Good morning, sir!" The staff at Johnson Group greeted Arthur politely yet fearfully while secretly glancing at Lucy.

Why did she look kind of familiar?

Before they could guess who she was, the staff sensed Arthur's pressing gaze. They tensed and quickly scurried off.

Lucy followed behind Arthur with her head lowered, feeling extremely uncomfortable.

In the past, she had often come to the office building to deliver his meals. Some of the older staff here knew her, and she was afraid she'd meet someone familiar... After all, they had already held a funeral for her.

"Morning, sir... Morning madam!" The more she feared it, the more likely it would happen. One of Arthur's secretaries recognized her and looked like she had seen a ghost. She gulped a few times.

Lucy smiled awkwardly, not knowing what to do with herself.

Arthur, on the other hand, was quite pleased. His expression softened a little as he waved his hand and said, "You'll get double your salary this month!"

"Thank you, sir!" The secretary ran away happily before she could decide whether Lucy was a ghost or just someone pretending to be Lucy. She was afraid Arthur would go back on his word.

Lucy walked all the way to the CEO's office under curious, envious, and fearful gazes. She felt as if that short distance was the longest path she had walked in twenty years.

"Wait here and don't run off!" Arthur pressed her into the CEO's chair.

She snorted and said sarcastically, "How would I dare to run with you threatening me with Kylah?"

Kylah was a typical woman who had it all from looks to money. Her family had a listed company that was doing quite well, but in comparison to Johnson Group, they were just a speck of dust. There was no need for competition.
