Chapter 96
“Do we need to make a call to the folks over at Rosewood Manor?”
‘Go for it‘
His tone was indifferent, and he felt incredibly annoyed at the thought of seeing Maja soon. He was
always a punctual guy, but she had stood him up twice in a row. Talk about having no
manners
Jeff pulled out his phone and dialed up Rosewood Manor
Maria was taken aback when she answered the call, Mr. Raymond was coming over tonight?! After
hanging up, she immediately had Coco moved to the back room and had the entire place scrubbed
down to ensure no dog hair was left
The staff moved swiftly, as they were accustomed to daily disinfection routines, and within half an hour,
everything was in order.
Maria let out a sigh of relief, then remembered Maja hadn’t returned yet and wondered if she should
give her a call. Just as she was about to reach for her phone, the sound of a car engine filled the air
She hurried outside, only to see an unfamiliar car.
A black Maybach.
Mr. Raymond was here!
Maria quickly set down her phone and went to greet him.
“Mr. Raymond”
lan wasnt exactly thrilled with everything about Rosewood Manor, but he wasn’t about to take it out on
innocent people, so he simply nodded.
Maria’s attitude became even more respectful.
Your mom has already sent over your things, and she specifically reminded the chef about your
preferences. If there’s anything you’re not comfortable with, just let me know. I am the caretaker left by
Holden to take care of Ms. Pennyfeather.”
lan glanced at her but said nothing.
Seeing his cold demeanor, Maria quickly led him to the master bedroom.
“Mr. Raymond, this is your room. Ms. Pennyfeather’s room is at the end of the corridor.”
lan looked down the corridor. was a long way off, good for privacy.
He pushed the door open and walked in. Maria stood by the door, only exhaling a sigh of relief when
the door closed.
Mr. Raymond’s presence was intense. It was his first visit to Rosewood Manor in three years, and she
wondered if he and Maja would get along.
Maria was so preoccupied with instructing the staff to clean up the dog hair in the villa, that she forgot Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
to call Maja in a timely manner. By this time, Maja had already arrived at the front gate.
Tired from dealing with her father’s affairs, Maja walked straight into her room without seeing Maria.
There was a strange, cold aura in the villa tonight. Just as she finished freshening up, she heard
Maria’s voice.
‘Ms. Pennyfeather, your warm milk is ready.”
Maja opened the door a crack and heard Maria say, “I’ve also prepared one for Mr. Raymond, I’ll bring
it to him in a bit.
Maja froze, thinking she had misheard.
“lan’s here?”
She was so surprised she called out his name.
Maria realized then that she hadn’t informed Maja about lan’s visit. She nodded.
“He is in the master bedroom, would you like to go say hello?”
Maja quickly took the milk. “Maria, call me after he leaves tomorrow. I won’t be having breakfast.”
Maria wasn’t a fool, she realized Maja was avoiding lan. She didn’t know the reason, and felt it wasn’t
her place to inquire further, she simply replied, “Alright, Ms. Pennyfeather, have a good rest.”
Maja closed the door, her heart racing. Not because she was excited, but because she feared her
secret would be exposed by lan. Thankfully, she hadn’t run into him when she came in, that would
have been too awkward.
She finished her warm milk, thinking about visiting her grandfather at the old house tomorrow. It was
rude not having met him today as promised.
Meanwhile, in the master bedroom, there was a knock on lan’s door. He scowled, could it be her?
When he answered, it was Maria holding a glass of warm milk.
“Would you like some warm milk before bed? I’ve also prepared one for you since Ms. Pennyfeather
has the habit of drinking it.”
“She’s back?”
Logically, being the wife he hadn’t seen in three years, she should at least greet him tonight, out of the
Pennyfeather’s enthusiasm for the Raymond family. She might even find various excuses to interact
with him.
“Yes, she has gone to bed.”
Jan had a weird feeling of being ignored. He took the milk, thanked Maria, and closed the door.
Was she deliberately avoiding him?
