Chapter 63
Chapter 63
“Ah!”
Instead, it was Joseline who let out endless agonizing screams.
What’s going on?
Angeline was taken aback and opened her eyes slowly. The cold, handsome face of Evander appeared in front of her eyes.
“Mr. Golding, what are you doing here?”
“Why didn’t you retaliate? Aren’t you usually very arrogant?” he mocked her with disdain.
“Nonsense! I just didn’t react fast enough. That’s all,” Angeline rambled on incoherently.
Evander glared at her in disbelief.
Meanwhile, Angeline’s attention had turned to the screaming Joseline. Angeline was supposed to be the target of the wine bottle. Right now, it had been smashed on Joseline’s arm, and blood was gushing out.
It was evident from Joseline’s ashen face that she was in pain.
Just then, Hanson spotted Evander and quickly got off the stage before going over. “Mr. Golding, I’m so sorry to have startled you.”
“Mr. Yiurk, your wife charged at me with a wine bottle. Is she trying to murder me?” said Evander icily with a hint of animosity.
Hanson looked grim because the two men were already competing for a project. Yet, at present, a few sentences from Evander were enough to humiliate him.
“No, it’s a misunderstanding. You were not her target.”
“So, it was meant to hit Angeline?” questioned Evander as he placed his arm around Angeline’s shoulders. His eyes darkened and he continued, “I can’t believe that she would hurt her own sister. A vicious woman like her will do anything! Looks like Golding Group would have to reconsider its collaboration with the Sorelle family and the Yiurk family!”
Evander’s harsh words rendered everyone speechless.
As Angeline looked at his hand that was on her shoulders, she was in shock. His cold words had made her come to a realization.
Is he standing up for me? Didn’t he come to see me make a fool of myself? No matter how I think about it, the testimonies in court must have changed his mind.
Evander believed that Angeline was not the person who had tried to harm Floretta!
Hanson’s face darkened when he saw the intimate scene between Evander and Angeline.
At the last event, Evander did not seem to know Angeline very well.
Since when did the two of them become so close?
At that moment, Joseline knew she was in trouble, so she rolled her eyes and pretended to pass out.
“Mr. Golding, please don’t be angry. A moment ago, Hanson said that he would cancel the wedding. Joseline is no longer related to us!” Wendy rushed forward and begged, “Furthermore, Yiurk Group will not be working with Sorelle Group anymore. I know you are upset with Sorelle Group, but please don’t vent it out on Yiurk Group.”
There would be no more collaboration between Yiurk Group and Sorelle Group.
That was what Angeline had been waiting to hear for so many years.
Her eyes were filled with hatred as she stared at Joseline, who was lying on the floor at that moment. She had the urge to rush forward and tear that pretentious face of hers apart.
In order to avoid the responsibility, Joseline could behave so shamelessly. Angeline wanted nothing more than to expose her sister’s true colors!
With that thought in mind, she strode toward Joseline. Just as she was within reach, someone grabbed her arm.
“It will make you look bad if you charge at her now,” Evander advised her.
Angeline stiffened. Tears started to well up in her eyes.
Why?
She had been trying so hard to get her revenge.
Finally, she got the opportunity. Angeline really wanted to seek justice for all the suffering that she had endured over the years.
Just as she was thinking about getting her revenge, Evander dragged her out of there.
The moment they left, the ballroom erupted into chaos. Some people were asking for help, while others were shouting in anger. There were also others who were crying.
A grand wedding of such a magnitude was something that every girl would dream of. The bride should have been the center of attention and received well wishes.
Yet, the entire event had turned into a terrible mess. It had become the laughingstock of the whole of Jadeborough.
Once they were out of the ballroom, Evander cast Angeline aside at the door before turning to leave.
Angeline had mixed feelings when she scanned her surroundings and could not find Evander. Just as she was about to hail a taxi, a black Maybach stopped in front of her. Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
The window of the back seat rolled down, and Evander’s exquisite face appeared.
“Get in!”
It might be two simple words that he had uttered, but it certainly was not a request.
Angeline frowned and pondered for a while before doing as she was told.
The powerful aura exuding from Evander was too intimidating for Angeline, so she sat as far away as she could from him.
Evander looked at her with those sharp eyes of his in annoyance. “Move a little closer. What? Do you think I will eat you up?”
“Huh?” Angeline was dumbfounded.
She thought Evander would be more repulsed by her after everything that had taken place.
Not wanting to displease him, Angeline had no choice but to inch closer to him.
It was only then Evander eased up. Neither of them spoke, and the atmosphere in the car became a little awkward.
Angeline gulped and hesitated for a second before expressing her gratitude, “Mr. Golding, thank you for your help earlier in the ballroom. God knows what would have happened to me if the bottle really landed on me.”
“Don’t read too much into it. I didn’t go there specially to save you,” said Evander quietly. “I received the wedding invitation, so I was there to drop off my present.”
Oh…
Angeline reorganized her thoughts before continuing, “Whatever it is, you did save me, and I hope to return the favor. Although I can’t be of any help right now, I will do my best should you require my help in the future.”
“Golding Group has given you your one and only chance,” reminded Evander in a deep voice.
“Yes, I’m aware. But, please believe me that one day, I shall return the favor to Golding Group,” said Angeline with utmost determination and seriousness.
Evander glanced at her and noticed her bright eyes when she made her promise.
He knew that she had gone through a lot in life and certainly much more than most people. Yet, the innocence in her eyes was as clear as day and irreplaceable.
Very soon, they arrived at Angeline’s home.
She unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car.
Just as she was about to close the door, she seemed to remember something. She asked nicely, “Mr. Golding, what about the endorsement of Starlight Jewelry?”
“There won’t be any changes,” replied Evander. “But, I hope the same thing doesn’t happen again. There’s a limit to my patience.”
His words calmed Angeline down completely.
“Please rest assured. There won’t be any more incidents before the shooting of the advertisement finishes,” Angeline gave her word. She sounded extremely confident.
Angeline turned and was about to leave when Evander reminded her, “If you want your revenge, then you must be ruthless. You will never be able to get back at Hanson if you behave the way you did earlier.”
