Chapter 767
After Glynnis successfully made her way back to Elmsworth with the aid of a Ms. Acacia, she holed up like a fugitive in a bungalow on the outskirts of a small village, only daring to wander nearby to pick up essentials. and never venturing too far for fear of being caught.
She avoided hotels and inns, terrified that if she showed her face in town, Thaddeus‘ men would snatch her up on the spot.
Living like a sewer rat just added fuel to the fire of her hatred and ignited her desperate longing for revenge to alter her circumstances.
As night fell, Glynnis arranged to meet Edith at a quaint, nearly deserted cafe on the outskirts of town.
When their coffee arrived, Edith sniffed it disdainfully and pushed it away.
“What is this, horse piss? You expect me to drink this?”
Glynnis, unfazed, took a calm sip. This is cat poop coffee.”
“Bullshit, I’d know cat poop coffee by its smell, this is just plain crap!”
Edith couldn’t resist the urge to taunt, “Well, look at you, Ms. Glynnis, how you’ve changed. You can stomach such filth now. Quite adaptable, aren’t we?”
“Experiencing the common folk’s life has its charms,” Glynnis replied expressionlessly, taking another sip.
Edith’s phone rang, and she stepped outside to take the call.
In the blink of an eye, Glynnis‘ eyes darkened; she viciously bit her finger and dripped blood tainted with the HIV virus into Edith’s coffee.
While she stirred it with a spoon, a sinister smile spread across her face.
After everything was set, Edith returned.
“Edith, we’re like sisters. I know this is beneath you,” Glynnis said with a pitiful expression, pleading. “Just take a sip for me, will you?”
Edith basked in the degradation of the once high and mighty Glynnis; as she was thirsty now, she took a big gulp without suspicion.
Glynnis suppressed a smile, internally bursting with vengeful glee.
“Let’s cut to the chase. You mentioned the collaboration last time, I’m in,” Edith said elegantly, setting down her cup.
“But what’s your plan? After the last incident, they’ll surely tighten security around that fool. Do you really have a chance?”
“I hear that Aaron is courting Marilla.”
Edith scoffed, “With that tramp Evadne playing matchmaker, your grandfather is over the moon about this match. Even if your dad steps in, it won’t stop them. Since Aaron is after her, they’re bound to date, right? They’ll have to go out alone at some point. How could we not find an opportunity?”
“Aren’t you thinking too simple? The Ashbournes are no easy targets, and Evadne’s brothers are not to be trifled with.”
Glynnis was wiser now and her schemes were deeper, “Aaron, a detective, a cop! Isn’t that a bit far– fetched to kidnap someone from under a cop’s nose?”
“Don’t worry about that, I’ve got an ace up my sleeve,” Edith sald with a smug lift of her eyebrows.
Clynnis frowned, “An ace? Who?”
Edith beckoned her closer with a finger and whispered two mysterious words:
“The Master,”
Concerned about Jareth, Thaddeus found time to check on him at the Fairhaven Group’s presidential office.
Jareth put down the documents and swallowed a handful of pills Dean had brought him.
“Jareth, why are you taking so many pills? Is your stomach acting up again? Thaddeus‘ brows furrowed with
worry.
It’s nothing, the pills and some good rest will do the trick”
Perhaps due to extreme fatigue, even Jareth stayed with a close friend, his words were few.
Thaddeus‘ eyes filled with concern, “Rest? Are you getting any? Dean told me you’re hardly sleeping, working all night. Are you trying to work yourself to death?”Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.
Jareth glanced at Dean, who quickly looked down as if he was regretting his loose lips.
“I’m just trying to cannibalize Mr. Thaddeus,” Jareth said with a rare smirk.
“Jareth, stop torturing yourself. Health is your biggest capital. Without it, you have nothing.”
“I’m not torturing myself; I just can’t sleep.”
He clutched a pen with his trembling fingers, with profound darkness in his eyes, “Thaddeus, get me some medication for insomnia. I think if I take some pills, I should be able to sleep. I understand what you’re saying, I do want to sleep.”
Thaddeus clenched his hands tightly, feeling his heart aching.
He couldn’t keep feeding him pills, as dependency would follow; with time passing, he wouldn’t be able to stop.
Then, after a knock on the door, Lily rushed in.
“Mr. Fairhaven, April officially filed for divorce from Gary yesterday. I managed to get the draft of the divorce agreement she made with her attorney, here, take a look.”
Lily handed Jareth a copy of the divorce agreement, and Thaddeus stood to review it with him.
“Heh, she certainly has a big mouth. She’s practically stripping Gary bare, Jareth quipped with a half– smile.
Thaddeus read carefully, then he spoke in a grave tone, “Isn’t this a bit much? Given Gary’s greed, how could he agree to these terms? Unless April has something critical on him, something that allows her to demand such a price for a divorce.”
