Cayden had always been supportive of Lily’s pastry shop dreams, and when she mentioned wanting to renovate and build a better shop, he was more than willing to help. They spent hours going over designs, visiting hardware stores, and picking out paint swatches.
“Maybe we should go with a light blue for the walls, it’ll make the pastries stand out more,” suggested Cayden as they browsed through the paint section of a local hardware store.
Lily nodded in agreement, “That’s a great idea! And we can get some modern light fixtures to add some ambiance.”Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.
As they made their way down the aisles, they would occasionally run into some of Lily’s acquaintances who would whisper and give them looks.
They would often be seen together at the pastry shop, discussing ideas for improvements or picking out new items for the menu. Some of the more judgmental townspeople would gossip about them behind their backs, speculating that Cayden would eventually dump Lily or that he was just using her for his own gain.
Despite the rumors, Cayden and Lily didn’t let it bother them. They were too focused on building a successful pastry shop and enjoying each other’s company.
Cayden and Lily just smiled and shrugged it off, knowing that their relationship was much deeper than any gossip.
The next day, Cayden surprised Lily by showing up at her shop with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
“Wow, Cayden! These are beautiful,” exclaimed Lily as she smelled the flowers.
“They’re for you, who’s working so hard on her dreams,” replied Cayden with a grin.
Lily blushed at the comment, “You’re so sweet, Cayden. Thank you.”
Over the next few days, Cayden continued to spoil Lily with gifts and affection. Cayden took Lily’s hand and led her towards the direction of a high-end shopping district. They walked past various stores and boutiques, with Lily admiring the window displays of designer clothes and luxury accessories. Cayden noticed her admiration and couldn’t resist spoiling her with a few treats.
“Let’s go in here,” Cayden said as he opened the door to a high-end jewelry store. The store was dimly lit, with sparkling jewels in glass display cases lining the walls. A friendly salesperson greeted them as they walked in and led them to a display case showcasing diamond necklaces.
Cayden looked at Lily and grinned. “Which one do you like?”
Lily’s eyes widened as she looked at the beautiful necklaces on display. “They’re all so stunning,” she said, admiring the diamonds as they sparkled in the light. She pointed to a necklace with a solitaire diamond pendant. “That one is beautiful,” she said softly.
He quickly got it for her before they left for the restaurant.
As they walked out of the shoe store, Lily couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed by Cayden’s generosity. “I don’t know how to thank you,” she said, her eyes filling with tears.
Cayden wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close. “You don’t have to thank me,” he said softly. “I just want you to be happy.”
Cayden couldn’t take his eyes off her, “You look stunning, Lily.” Cayden complimented, his lips forming an “o” as he talked to her.
“Thank you.” She responded, beaming.
Lily decided to ask Cayden about his job. She had seen him work before, and she was curious to know what his role was at the company.
“So, what’s the company where you work?” she asked, taking a sip of her wine.
As Cayden shared the name of the company he worked for, Lily’s face fell. It was as if a dark cloud had descended upon her, and her expression shifted from one of joy and excitement to one of fear and apprehension.
Cayden noticed the change in her demeanor and was taken aback. “What’s wrong, Lily?” he asked, his voice filled with concern.
Lily hesitated, her eyes searching Cayden’s face for a moment.
She suddenly looked like she had seen a ghost. “What’s wrong?” Cayden asked, concerned.
“Lily?” he repeated, reaching out to touch her hand.
Lily shook her head. “I’m sorry, Cayden. I just don’t feel well all of a sudden. Can we go home?”
Cayden was confused, but he didn’t argue. “Of course, let me call for the bill.”
As they walked out of the restaurant, Cayden tried to ask Lily what was wrong, but she was distant and unresponsive. When they reached her apartment building, Lily leaned in and kissed Cayden on the cheek. “Thanks for a lovely evening,” she said softly, before walking inside.
Cayden stood on the sidewalk, watching her disappear into the building. He couldn’t understand what had just happened. Lily had seemed fine all evening, and then suddenly she was upset and wanted to go home.
Cayden’s mind was racing as he sat alone in the restaurant, his thoughts darting from one possibility to the next. What had he said to upset Lily so much? Was it something he had done? Or worse, something he hadn’t done?
As he sat there, he felt a growing sense of unease. It was as if the entire world had shifted on its axis, and he was the only one who hadn’t received the memo.
He replayed their conversation in his mind, trying to identify the moment when things had gone wrong. He couldn’t find it. Everything had been going so well. They had laughed and talked, and he had felt a growing sense of connection between them.
Had he said something wrong? Did he do something to upset her? Was there someone else in her life that he didn’t know about? Cayden was at a loss, and he couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something more going on than what he could see.
As he stood there at the table, Cayden felt a pang of sadness in his chest. He had been so happy just moments before, and now he was left with nothing but confusion and uncertainty.
But now, as he sat there alone, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something terrible had happened. Something that he couldn’t quite put his finger on.
He thought about calling Lily, but he knew it was pointless. She had made it clear that she didn’t want to talk about it, and he didn’t want to make things worse by pushing her.
Instead, he tried to distract himself by focusing on the details of the restaurant around him. He noticed the way the light played across the tablecloth, the clink of silverware against plates, the murmur of conversation from other diners.
But even as he tried to distract himself, his mind kept returning to Lily. What had happened? What had he done to make her so upset?
He knew that he wouldn’t be able to rest until he figured it out. But for now, all he could do was wait, and hope that Lily would find it in her heart to forgive him.
