Love's Redemption

Redmption 99

Redmption 99

I agreed to Bree’s request for the time being and saw her off before returning to work. However, when I got back, I only saw Kara. Brandon was missing.

“Where is he?” I asked.

“Mr. Lachy asked for him,” Kara replied.

She stared at me. “Maddie, even your future mother–in–law came to mediate. Are you-”

“I have no future with Chris. It doesn’t matter who shows up. Don’t overthink it.” I cut her off, making my stance clear once more.

Kara sighed. “Honestly, everything about Chris‘ family is great, except for the leading man himself.”

Kara was right. The Gildons were a wonderful family, but I wasn’t marrying into the family, I was marrying Chris. It didn’t matter how wonderful they were if Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.

Chris wasn’t the one.

Even after Kara and I waited half an hour for Brandon, he still hadn’t returned. I

decided to call him, but it turned out he had left his phone in the rest area.

“Maddie, Brandon must be single. Look at how he just left his phone. If he had a girlfriend, he would have had his phone on him the entire time.” Karal commented based on her experience.

I didn’t delve into that with her. Instead, I checked the time and stood up. “I’m going to Mr. Lachy’s office.”

As I approached the door, I heard Brandon’s voice. “I dare say, if I’m transferred, it will take at least half a month longer to complete the adjustments required, maybe even more.

I was stunned. Brandon was being transferred? What was going on?

I was a to push the door open when I heard Gordon from inside. “Mr. Gildon said this was our responsibility and won’t be counted against you.”

I finally understood what this was about. I pushed the door open and walked in. “I don’t agree.”

Gordon looked embarrassed when he saw me and quickly explained, “Ms. Crown, this is an order from Mr. Gildon.”

“It doesn’t matter. I’m in charge of this amusement park project, and I won’t agree to having a replacement even if he says so.” I retorted firmly.

Gordon looked troubled. I knew that he was just the messenger, so I said, “Mr. Yates, please tell Mr. Gildon that this is my stance. If he insists on replacing Mr. Howell, he can have me replaced too.

“Ms. Crown-”

“Let’s get back to work, Mr. Howell.” I cut off Gordon and called out to Brandon.

He didn’t move, so I went over, grabbed him, and marched toward the door. But as soon as we reached the door, we ran into Chris. His eyes immediately fell on my hand holding Brandon’s.

First, Chris told Bree about Brandon and had her probe him, and now he was trying to get Brandon transferred. How did I not see how despicable this man was before?

I saw the anger in his eyes, followed by his cold, mocking tone. “Ms. Crown, did you think I wouldn’t fire you?”

“Then do it!” I challenged.

Chris was livid. Right then, Brandon spoke up. “I’d like to know why you want to have me replaced, Mr. Gildon.”

“You failed to follow our directives and took unauthorized breaks, causing delays to the project. That is the reason.” Chris responded immediately.

“I told you. I already agreed to it.” I defended.

Chris glared at me. “Did you think he doesn’t need to be held accountable just because you agreed to it?”

Sensing the tense atmosphere, Mr. Lachy quickly came forward. “Mr. Gildon, it was indeed inappropriate for Mr. Howell to take unauthorized breaks. It won’t happen again.”

“Why not? It’s my right to take breaks.” Brandon stood his ground.

“Even if he doesn’t take a break, I need to rest too. He still won’t be able to work

then.” I backed him up.

Chris‘ expression darkened completely. His gaze fell on my hand holding Brandon’s again. “Ms. Crown, come with me. I need to talk to you.”
