She came in excitedly without noticing Charlie at the door and almost bumped into him.

“Oops…” she cried out, instinctively shielding the box she was holding.

Charlie was pissed and frowned. When he heard her exclamation, he instinctively reached out to help her, for fear that she would accidentally hit her belly. “Be careful!”

Unexpectedly, she avoided his hands as if the box was some kind of treasure that he couldn’t touch. Then she said. “Wait a minute. I have to go to the bathroom now. I’ll talk to you later!”

As she spoke, she rushed into the bathroom without glancing at his face.

Charlie watched helplessly as she ran past him without looking back. He was so angry that his handsome face darkened.

He thought, “Where did she go? She is wet all over. And what is she carrying? She didn’t even let me touch it!”

His anxiety and worry turned into anger in an instant. With a gloomy face, he followed her aggressively into the bathroom, only to see her crouching under the heater, with wet hair, and carefully handling the opened cardboard box.

As soon as he walked over, he saw the little creature lying quietly in the box and frowned.

It was a soaked and trembling puppy.

A puppy?

Why did she bring back a puppy without telling him?

Eugene also rushed over. He grasped the bathroom door frame, peered inside, and caught sight of the dirty puppy resting in the cardboard box. At first, he was stunned, but then his large eyes brightened.

A puppy?

A living puppy!

He looked at the cardboard box with his eyes wide and without blinking. There seemed to be some surprise and interest on his blank face.

There had never been any pets in the Franco’s residence.

Charlie didn’t like hairy animals that couldn’t clean themselves.

Besides, animals always carry some bacteria. Since Eugene had a weak constitution, nobody let him get close to animals. He was already six years old, but this was the first time he had seen a real puppy. He had only ever seen them on TV or in pictures

Most children like animals, and Eugene was no exception. He even had a lot of animal toys.

The puppy Kamryn brought back was a newborn and the size of a man’s palm. At the moment, it curled up like a ball, looking quite pitiful. Despite its dirty fur, its big, bright, black eyes were adorable.

Eugene took a fancy to it at first glance and was reluctant to leave.

Kamryn turned around and saw Charlie standing behind her. She looked even happier and her eyes were bright. She raised the half–drenched cardboard box like presenting a treasure and said with a

smile, “Charlie, look, a puppy!”

Charlie frowned as he said, “I know it’s a puppy. Where did you get it?”

She did not notice his unhappy expression. Her bright eyes were full of joy as she brought the cardboard box to her chest and sand proudly, “I found it not far away from our home. Look, isn’t it very cute!”

As she spoke, she walked up to him with the cardboard box in her arms.

Eugene stood on tiptoe outside the door, eager to see the puppy.

Unfortunately, the box was too high for him to see, even when he was on his toes. He could not help but feel frustrated.

With furrowed brows, Charlie lowered his gaze and looked at the dog in the box with condescension.

The little puppy looked too silly to comprehend what was going on. It huddled up pathetically without attempting to be adorable to gain a good impression or whine for sympathy. Shivering from the cold, it gazed at Charlie pitifully with a pair of innocent and seemingly sad black eyes.

It was soaked from the rain. It seemed like it hadn’t been washed in a while and was very dirty. When Charlie approached it, he could smell the unpleasant odor of the tangled fur.

He was disgusted by it at first.

But the puppy’s eyes gave him a strange sense of familiarity. When he looked up, he saw Kamryn’s bright eyes.

He rubbed his temples helplessly.

Kamryn smiled expectantly and said, “How is it? Isn’t this puppy cute? Let’s keep it, okay?”

“No!

He refused without hesitation. His temples throbbed again. Frowning, he said grumpily, “We already have a dog. I can’t afford

a second one!”

She was shocked and widened her eyes, thinking, ‘Can’t… can’t afford a second one? Did I hear it wrong? He runs the Glorise Consortium and manages billions of dollars. Everyone in Faycaster respects and admires him and he’s revered as the youngest billionaire in history. But he just said he couldn’t afford to keep a little puppy? This is the most ridiculous joke I’ve ever heard. Even if he wants to reject me, he should have come up with a better reason. Does he think of me as a three– year–old child?‘

Kamryn pursed her lips, feeling upset.

Then she realized there was something wrong with his words and couldn’t help but ask, “When did we get a dog? Why didn’t I

know”

Charlie stared at her and didn’t say anything.

Confused, she followed his gaze and instinctively scanned herself. Only then did she understand what he meant and snapped, “How could you! Didn’t we agree to stop personal abuse?”

Charlie raised his eyebrows and pointed to the bathroom, his tone overbearing.

Kamryn was unwilling to give up. “Why can’t I keep it? The puppy is so cute!”

“I don’t think so,” said Charlie, failing to understand her aesthetic sensitivity.

He thought, “What’s so cute about such a dirty and hairy animal, although its eyes resemble hers and are adorable? Despite the resemblance, I can’t let it stay. I will ask the servant to send it away and choose a suitable owner for it

“It’s so cute. Look at its big and shining eyes! I heard that dogs with beautiful eyes are usually very smart. With love and care, it will definitely be a good dog!” Kamryn said with confidence, “Besides, I found it, so there must be a special bond between us. I’m destined to be its owner!”
