Chapter 38 Girlfriends
Jessica
A month after Kayleigh was admitted to the hospital I told Tyler that I wanted to see her again.
“Remember the last time you were there?” Tyler was being straight protective of me and didn’t like where our conversation was going.
“I do, but she was my best friend for years and she did somehow help me cope with the aftereffect from my abusive brother. I just need to see her, even if it might be my last time. I need to close that chapter of my life,”
He knows my implication by saying my past as the dark chapter, the memories that I don’t want to revisit. He knows I needed the closure.
“Let me call her doctor, your meeting will be supervised. I’m not risking you being hurt again.”
“Thank you,”
“Jess, you know I’ll do anything for you. Now eat, we’ll leave in half an hour.”
I smiled at him and continue eating my omelet while watching my handsome fiancé getting ready for work. I still couldn’t believe that I was at this stage of my life. Never had I imagined that would be this happy, looking forward to settling down with my man and having my own little family.
“What are you thinking?” Tyler pecks my cheek and sits to my front drinking his coffee and start digging on his omelet breakfast.
“Nothing, I’m just happy, content.” I smiled and he took my hand, my ring finger, and rubbed it soothingly.
“More happiness to come, baby, but before that dinner with my parents. Heads up, mom has been talking about venues, caterers, and all the works. She’s really looking forward to our wedding.”
“She can arrange everything, but I want you to surprise me with our honeymoon. I’m the future bride I’ll get to order people around.”
I winked at him, knowing he didn’t like the pressure of pleasing me. I still remember how nervous he was when he was picking my ring, then proposing. Choosing something for me definitely is not his favorite stuff to do, and I was liking his little quirks. Knowing that my opinion meant that much to him.
“Jess, baby, you’re going to make me suffer. You know how I am with this stuff,”
“No cheating, I’ll tell Elsie not to help you or she too will have my wrath and not be invited to my bachelorette party.”
“You’re going to have the party?” he didn’t look please at the fact, and it’s adorable that he was that worried.
“Of course, Amanda is setting it up… there’s this strip club called Babes,” I teased knowing he knows about Amanda’s wild days from Dale.
“Nope! no strip clubs, I don’t want half-naked guys grinding on my fiancée.”
“Alright, you tell Amanda that, you know I can’t say no to her.”
“I’m going to tell Dale, I’m sure he would like to know his wife’s plans. That woman has some issues with her besties. Dale said they’re all mafia wives.”
I laughed at his words, but quickly silence myself when he was not laughing with me.
“You’re serious aren’t you?”
He nodded and gathered our dishes and put them in the sink for the maid to clean. Tyler held out his hand and we were out of the door and on our way to the office.
It has been our routine that we parted and entered our offices and start getting to work the moment we arrived.
“I love seeing mommy and daddy early in the office,” Elsie greeted me with my green juice, her other hand was holding her own tumbler filled with the same concoction. It was our morning routine, we would have half an hour before the clock indicates the working hour and she was back to her desk and cater to my husband to be.
“So? how’s your weekend with Brodie?” I drink my green juice and waited on her, slurping while resting back to my chair thinking how the hell did she get me hooked on the healthy drinks.
“The sex is amazing as always, but there’s something in him that I need to breakthrough. Like his wall is too tall for me to climb.”
“Mm… hmm… I bet you don’t have an issue climbing him and into his bed,”
She giggled and stories of her weekend sexual adventures easily spilled out of her mouth. By that time, I was on my fifth PA. And while I couldn’t get Gemma to work from my office, she would come and help me out a couple of times a week and when she does she greeted me every morning with my second cup of coffee.
“Gemma, come here join us, Elsie here was just telling me about her climbing excursion.”
Gemma, Elsie, and I made the strangest group, totally different personalities yet we clicked and giggled before working hours started.
The rest of the morning was productive and easily passed by, lunchtime I was back with my girls. Yes, I was at a point where I was comfortable enough to call them my workmates and Tyler couldn’t be any happier about my life until this morning when I mentioned that I want to see Kayleigh.
I guessed he thought that I might have a setback after the visit.
“He’s having lunch with Larry right now, seriously Gemma, why are you doing this to yourself?” I started the conversation as we were waiting for our lunch to arrive.
“I thought we’re done talking about me? Oh, come on… don’t you girls get bored listening to me?”
“Well, if you want to listen to more of my x-rated stuff,”
“Ew… I think you have crossed the line, I don’t think my prude mind can live up to your expectations.”
“Yet, we all love you anyway.” Elsie grinned at her.
We continue our chat and had our lunch before I dropped them my news.
“So, I was thinking of visiting Kayleigh again. Well, I told Tyler and he’s going to set an appointment for me.”
“What? are you serious? after what she did to you?”
“That’s what Tyler said,” I shrugged and drink my water. “… but honestly, I need this, at least for closure. One last time.”
“Oh honey, please make sure it’s supervised. Do you want me there? I can kick her ass, is she messes with you.”Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
“No, I don’t want her seeing you, remember… she didn’t like you.”
Elsie nodded and Gemma added, “Bring Tyler then?”
“I will, but if you keep on looking at your phone like that, I might just text the guy and tell him to come here and haul you out of here.” Gemma had been on and off checking on her phone waiting for a text or a call from Larry for over an hour and it was making me frustrated with her behavior.
Elsie laughed, almost choked on her ice tea making Gemma put her phone face down on the table. Though it didn’t take long for her to check on her phone again once we leave the small restaurant.
It was four when Tyler stepped into my office telling me that he had talked with Kayleigh’s doctor, they had an opening at five that same day.
“Since she never had a visitor, her doctor make sure he will be available for our visit and one guard will be there too,”
“And you?”
“Well, her doctor said my face can be another trigger he won’t advise me being in the same room as Kayleigh. But I will be right outside holding your ring of course. Her doctor doesn’t want the ring to trigger her again and I’ll be with you in seconds if anything happens.”
“You’re okay with this?”
“Jessica, you know I will forever worry about you. The only time I feel at peace is when you lay beside me at night, but I realized I can’t say no to you.” He stepped closer and planted on soft kiss on my forehead.
I pulled him closer for a hug and rest my head to his chest, whispering my thank you.
