Chapter 141 – Swept into the Vortex
The night is late, and by the pillow, Alan is already asleep.
The sound of steady breathing is just out of earshot, like a slight breeze with a hint of sleepy warmth.
Lexie carefully lifted the corner of the quilt and got out of bed, making sure Alan was asleep before she left barefoot, she pushed open the door to the second bedroom and went into the bathroom.
Pulling open the shower curtain, the bathtub was empty and even the blood had disappeared.
Where are the people?
Lexie blinked hard to make sure she was seeing things right.
What about the woman who was covered in blood and dying?
She looked around and tried to find some blood in the bathroom and found nothing, but she noticed that the clothes she was wearing that day were also missing.
There is one USB left on the washstand.
Lexie’s mind snapped back to what Joanna had said – go find Flora.
The following day.
Lexie brought the tea into the study and saw ‘Mr. Jorden’, whom Joanna had accompanied the day before, sitting in the study with a cigar lit and a silver safe on the coffee table.
Mr. Jorden said, “What happened yesterday was an accident, and it was my misuse of people that almost spoiled it.”
Alan asked, “Did you get the man?”
“No, but she can’t make any waves, she definitely can’t escape L City.”
“Mr. Jorden has always done things without missing a beat.”
“Thank you, business well, about integrity, do our business are risky, first check the goods …”
Mr. Jorden’s hand rested on the safe, cigar smoke curling up.
He suddenly glanced at Lexie.
Alan said, “Lexie, you go out first.”
Lexie nodded obediently and left the study.
Back in the bedroom, she quickly put on her headphones and soon heard the sounds of a study conversation coming through them.
She glued the bug under the tea tray that Flora had sent her to the hotel.
Mr. Jorden said, “If you the Howard Group’s pharmaceutical line can achieve this quality, then this foreign channel, I can pull the strings and give half of it to the Howard Group.”
“Just half, Mr. Jorden? We’re offering a much lower price than the Mitchell Group.”
Mr. Jorden let out a laugh, “Do this business know the truth that the eggs should not be put in one basket, there are very few changes in suppliers, this is the first time to cooperate with the Howard Group, Mr. Howard forgive me, there is also to take the risk.”
“Understandable, but of the people in this press, I also asked to arrange an escort from THE Howard Group.”
“That’s not possible.”
“Mr. Jorden, you can’t make me the Howard Group take all the risk, can you? Wouldn’t Peter send someone along when he made a deal with the Mitchell Group?”
“This …”
Lexie listened to the conversation in her headset, her heart racing.
Alan is involved in the Mitchell Group business, but what business is it that requires such caution?
And the silver safe, similar to the one Flora described, the one Myles saw at the hospital before he was killed, maybe the deal that crashed through was the same one.
After Mr. Jorden left, Alan came out of the study.
Lexie went to the study to pack the tea tray.
Alan said, “Don’t get busy, just leave it for the hotel attendant to clean up.”
“Come here and sit with me for a while.”
Lexie’s hand tightened slightly as she put down her tea tray and walked over.
“Come and sit down.”
Alan’s large hand slapped the side of his body.
[What’s wrong?
“Let’s go back to J City in the morning, we’ve found a nursing home for grandma, make an appointment tomorrow and I’ll go back with you to see grandma.”
[No need.]
“What’s wrong? Don’t want me to see grandma?”
Lexie’s face tightened and she pursed her lips, [Grandma doesn’t know about my miscarriage yet].
A flash of chagrin crossed Alan’s cold eyes.
Half a minute later, he held Lexie’s hand, “Then don’t let grandma know yet, I’ll let Jack take care of the sanatorium, you don’t have to worry about it.”
Lexie nodded.
Her obedient appearance fell on her eyes, and the fatigue of the past few days subsided.
Alan pressed down and leaned in close.
Lexie, however, reflexively inclined her head, and her hand subconsciously stopped at his chest.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
For a moment, the disgust that came out of her eyes fell in Alan’s eyes, and Alan’s face instantly sank as his large hand cupped her cheek, forcing her to look at himself, “What are you thinking?”
Lexie whimpered twice in pain.
“The meekness of the past few days is all pretend, right? In fact, you still hate me in your heart, so why don’t you continue to pretend? Because you’re going back to J City tomorrow, aren’t you?”
Lexie’s face turned red and she couldn’t struggle.
Alan’s hand strength increased, angry, “Even if it is pretend, you also give me pretend like a little, only two days of work can not pretend, how do you plan to live in the future?”
Lexie made a sound of pain, feeling like a fish on a plate, at the mercy of others.
The man in front of her only treats her as a plaything, wants her to laugh when she laughs, wants her to cry when she cries.
He knows that his obedience is all pretend, but enjoys it, he does not care what he really thinks, as long as he obeys him and what he shows is enough to satisfy him.
The pain in her cheeks grew numb, and Lexie tried to make her eyes look soft and pleading as she looked at the man in front of her, tears sliding down the corners of her eyes.
Alan’s mind wandered and impatiently let go of her.
“With a loud bang, the door slammed shut and Alan was out.
One of Lexie’s hearts was put back in place and she covered her chest as the air poured violently into her nasal cavity, causing her to cough uncontrollably.
The sound of a phone vibrating on the coffee table has been vibrating for a while now.
When she saw that the caller ID was Patrick, she immediately pressed hang up and replied to the message.
“What’s wrong?”
“Grandmother is missing.”
Seeing this, Lexie’s face changed abruptly, “When did it happen? How come it’s gone?”
“Grandmother’s shopping cart is not at home, she went out early in the morning, and has not returned! I am now looking for her in the vegetable market, but asked the familiar vegetable vendors, all said that grandma did not come to buy vegetables at all this morning.”
Lexie was about to ask something more when her phone suddenly vibrated and an unfamiliar call popped up.
“Hello? Is this Lexie?”
The voice on that end was specially treated to sound eerily creepy.
Lexie’s heart stuttered with a bad feeling.
“I know it’s not convenient for you to talk, but it’s okay, just listen to me, your grandma is in my hands now, if you want her to return safely, do one thing for me.”
“Go beg Alan and voluntarily drop this bid in L City.”
Lexie blanched.
How could Alan possibly listen to her?
She ‘ah ah ah’ into the phone for half a day to explain, but can not make a normal voice and the other party to communicate, the other party directly hung up the phone, only leaving a sentence, “Lexie, you do not have much time, and the old man’s body should not be able to withstand the torment.”
