Chapter 1649: I'm back.

"Yes, she will be sad," Stanley chuckled. "But I won't let her sadness last too long."

"She will eventually return to that position and become my wife again."

"This is her original life."

"Your exchange was a mistake, and this mistake... should end now."

Selena looked at the man opposite with teary eyes.

What moved her was not Stanley's threat.

It was his gaze.

Like her, he had someone unforgettable in his most ignorant days of life.

The difference was that he was luckier than she was.

The girl he liked grew into a confident and strong woman under his careful care.

And her arrival, by chance or by fate, destroyed the happiness he should have had.

Two equally lonely people are most likely to resonate emotionally with each other.

Especially when one of them feels deep guilt, this empathy can reach its peak.

Selena lowered her eyelashes and bit her bloodless lips hoarsely. "... Okay."

Selena spent the entire night getting ready, and the next day when she stepped out of her house, she

saw Stanley waiting for her outside the gate.

Selena was taken aback.

Stanley smiled slightly and opened the car door. "Let's go, Selena."

Selena smiled and turned to Leia behind her. "I'm going out for a bit. I should be back by noon unless

something unexpected happens."

She had originally planned to go to Wang Ting to ask her father for permission to enter the research

institute, but Stanley had clearly already solved that problem for her.

Leia frowned disapprovingly at Stanley but obediently replied, "Yes, Miss Selena."

Osvaldo held significant power within the Alliance - most of which belonged in shady areas.

Furthermore, he hadn't been around here in a while and had accumulated a lot of work that needed

attention.

As a nobleman from Wang Ting's family, Stanley could undoubtedly help Selena more openly than

Osvaldo could.

She would have no choice but to rely on this man.

Selena lifted up her dress and got into the back seat of his black sports car.

The car drove away from suburban townships towards Central City - as it was known as Alliance's

main city with an advanced level of development beyond imagination.

Every road building here was exceptionally clean-cut with rich aesthetics; its walls were so clean they

almost reflected light off them like mirrors.

At Central City's heart lay an architectural complex surrounded by vast lawns.

Outside two five-meter-high gates stood military men in uniform, carrying long guns and standing tall. A

black sports car parked outside the gates, and a soldier immediately approached it.

A hand reached out from the car window and handed over a document.

The man looked at the seal on the document and was stunned. He then respectfully bowed before

opening the gate from inside.

The black sports car slowly slid inside.

Selena looked through the car window at young people carrying books or wearing white coats walking

back and forth with old professors, feeling nostalgic.

Stanley looked at her expression and chuckled. "If they knew you were back, this car probably wouldn't

be able to get in."

Selena smiled. "This place is still so peaceful..."

Although Lillian had secretly eliminated dissidents and caused harm to many people, the atmosphere

of the research institute on its surface had not become bad enough to make people feel uneasy yet.

Stanley's gaze lightly swept past a large building in front of them, his expression flickering uncertainly.

On its surface, this research institute worked together with administrative halls. But compared to

administrative halls where rules could be found for their actions, this place was truly unfathomable

within Empire because there were too many intelligent individuals here who could think for themselves.

Fortunately for Stanley though, the genius who made everyone in the research institute wary was

sitting beside him right now as they drove along until finally stopping at an entrance of an imposing

building.

Selena put on her sunglasses before stepping out of high heels from inside of their vehicle.

The guard at the entrance saluted as he saw the two of them approach. Stanley presented his

document.

The guard examined the seal on it, then scrutinized Selena for a long moment, looking hesitant.

"Mr. Soo," one of them spoke up, "this young lady has a special status. Even with His Majesty's

approval, we still need to seek permission from the dean before allowing her entry."

This place was too important for just anyone to enter. If someone with ill intentions were to get in, it

could spell disaster for the entire alliance.

Stanley was about to speak when Selena suddenly looked up and smiled faintly at the intricate maze

gate carved with ancient patterns in front of her. She whispered something under her breath.

Suddenly, there was a heavy creaking sound as the massive iron door behind them slowly opened up.

Everyone turned around instinctively and saw that it revealed a path paved with stars stretching out

ahead of them into darkness beyond their sight.

The guards' refusal was silenced instantly by this unexpected turn of events. They stared in shock at

what they were seeing - an open path paved with stars that had never been opened except when Her

Majesty visited before. From NôvelDrama.Org.

Inside lay their ancestor who created this pathway along with its master who had equally bad

temperaments and often played pranks on those they did not like - even going so far as to trip people

secretly if they displeased him too much!

Their rebelliousness made many researchers happy but also gave them headaches because they were

too human-like!

And at this moment, it opened up to a stranger and willingly led them down the path adorned with

flowers and stars.

Even from a distance, one could feel its excitement and joy.

It welcomed the person with a grand ceremony while also warning them not to disrespect her.

The guards were momentarily stunned before standing up straight and saluting Selena. "Welcome,

miss."

Selena smiled happily as she stepped forward amidst the shocked stares and entered.

As she entered the maze, the door behind her slowly closed but instead of darkness, her surroundings

became brighter.

She walked on a flowing belt of stars surrounded by what seemed like an immense universe full of

depth and wonder.

Countless stars slid past her head and fingertips before settling on Selena's hair or dress. It was as if

she was in space billions of light-years away from Earth.

Although it was supposed to be a maze, there were no forks in the road along the way. The "people"

inside knew their master had returned so they eagerly removed any obstacles in their path. They laid

out a romantic yet beautiful path for Selena using flowers and stars along every step of her journey

through this magical place.

Finally arriving at an enormous dreamlike room outside that deep maze.

The door opened before Selena's eyes.

She took a step forward and walked in.

The room was covered in carpet, with blue light particles floating in the air like silk threads.

Standing amidst the blue glow, Selena looked up towards the figure seated above her and smiled

gently. "I'm back."

"Gaia."
