Chapter 11 FREDA WHITLOCK I took a deep breath and unlocked the door before I climbed out of the car. It was noon and I needed a breath of fresh air before I would fully drive into the pack environment. “Mom? Are you okay?” Francisco asked and I noticed the worry in his tone. We had both just been speaking of our excitement at getting to the pack and I had stopped the car out of nowhere. I understood why he was confused and worried. “I’m okay baby. I just need a second,” I responded, glancing back into the car. He nodded and I stepped towards the treeline that was right beside the car. Gia purred in my head. We were both filled with a sense of nostalgia, excitement and joy that we were back where I used to go for runs when I was young. “You like that, Gia?” I whispered with a small smile and she responded with a grunt in my head. It seemed that the fact that I was back in my pack connected her more with me, then when I was surrounded by the noise of the human society. I took another deep breath, enjoying the peace of the fresh air while I still had it. I smiled and walked back to the car. “Alright buddy, Mom’s had a second. Let’s keep going.” I grinned back at him once I had buckled in and he smiled in response. 17.06 289/Vouchers I started the car and continued on my way through Brookback town. It was the small town where my pack was located. There were humans in the town, but they were very few and they knew nothing about the werewolves because the previous Alpha’s of the pack had made sure to separate them from us. I drove for another ten minutes, admiring the trees and the surroundings. The nostalgic I was feeling almost choked the air out of me but I held on. I slowed down as I reached the area where most of the Werewolf dwellings were located. The pack house was where most werewolves stayed. It was massive and it could contain everyone, but a few

people wanted to live on their own and they had houses around the pack territory. My family had been compulsorised to live in the pack house because my father was the beta of the pack. I slowed my car down as I pulled into the driveway of the infirmary. “Lyra… “I muttered. I picked my phone and placed a call across to Lyra. She picked the call on the second ring. “You’re here?” She asked and I could almost physically feel the vibration in her voice. She sounded excited, scared and anxious all at the same time. I understand her, because I was feeling those exact things. Except, mine was for an entirely different reason. “I’m at the infirmary.” I finally spoke. “Okay. I’ll be out soon.” She replied and I hung up. 17:06 202 Vouchers “Baby, we’re hère,” I looked back at Francisco as I spoke but he was already fast asleep. I had not noticed that he had fallen asleep and I smiled at the sight of the peaceful expression on his face. I bit my lip and climbed out of the car after I had gathered my phone and other necessities into my small purse. I walked round to the back of the car and pulled the door open. I unbuckled Cisco out of the child seat and lifted him into my arms. I shut the door and clicked the lock button on the remote. As I turned around, I was faced with Lyra standing at the entrance of the pack infirmary. She looked lik a deer in the headlights and I wondered if she did. not like what she saw. I watched as her eyes filled with tears and her bottom lip wobbled. “Freda…” She muttered in a cracked voice and I smiled at her, holding my sleeping son to my chest. Tears filled my eyes too. “Come here,” I muttered and she speedily walked to me. “I’d hug you, but you’re carrying Francisco,” she babbled through her tears. I blinked rapidly, laughing lightly and hoping that the tears would stop. “We have all the time to hug

when he wakes up. He was so excited to meet you,but I guess he was tired too.” I explained and she nodded. “You’re staying?” She asked and I hesitated before responding. “We’ll talk about that later,” she nodded with understanding and I hummed in agreement. “Dad… Where is he?” I asked. I was dying to see him. I had missed him so much and I was eager to give him a warm embrace after all this time. 208 Vouchers “Come on,” she beckoned on me to follow her and I did just that, balancing Cisco on my hand as I followed her. *** *** *** I stared at my sleeping father’s form. He looked different. This was not the way I had remembered him. He had been handsome and healthy and happy. Now… The healthy glow around him had disappeared. He was pale, he was a lot thinner and even in his sleep, he looked like he was in a lot of pain. I bit my lip and tried to stop the tears. I knew it was s**d, but I wished I had not run away. Maybe this would not have. happened. It was s**d. My father was h**d to his sense of duty and he would have performed his duties whether I was here or not. He would have gone after those rogues, and this would have happened anyway. I looked down at my hand while Cisco laughed at something Lyra whispered to him. He had instantly clicked with her when he woke up. It was like he had known her his whole life and he was comfortable with her. Then again, he had. Ever since he started learning how to talk, he had babbled to her when I had been on the phone with her. I smiled at them. It was heartwarming to watch them, but I needed some air. “I’ll be back,” I whispered to Lyra and she looked at me with 1 worry in her eyes before she nodded. And then I left the room. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
