Chapter 410

Chapter 410

Chapter 410 Feels Different

After assuming Xavier’s identity, he was determined to never go back to being a fugitive who lived on the brink of peril. Instead, he aspired to live a life of privilege, with all the luxuries it came with, and to have Xavier’s woman as his own.

He hated Winnie to the bone.

Harold lowered his head to leer at Winnie.

He then traced Winnie’s features with his bandaged hand.

Ha! She’s blind. I bet she didn’t see this coming. I’m not in a hurry to teach her a lesson now. She is already blind, so she’ll wait for me to come home to the mansion every day. From today onward, I’m her man. That isn’t enough, for I want to be her master! I’ll make her life a living hell! This is just the start of the game.

Harold wanted to head to Fairchild Corporation now as he wanted to see how wealthy Xavier was.

“Turn around and head to the company,” Harold ordered the driver after having made up his mind.

Winnie gaped in surprise. “Are you not tired? Didn’t we agree to head back to the mansion first?”

“I’m not tired. It has been a few days since I last went to the company, so I suddenly feel like heading there,” Harold explained. “If you’re tired, we can find a spot ahead to stop the car. I’ll get someone else to send you back.”

Before Winnie could even open her mouth to respond, he added, “You know what? You should jut return to the mansion. It’s not safe for you to be running around when you can’t see. You must be tired after traveling around all day. I’ll be fine alone.”

With that, he instructed the driver, “Stop the car somewhere nearby.”

He then asked Louis, “Did anything happen at the company these few days?”

Hearing his superior’s question, Louis promptly selected some important matters to report to him.

Winnie didn’t even get to utter a word even after the driver found a spot to stop the car.

After the car rolled to a halt, Harold told Louis, “We’ll both take the car behind this one. Let’s go.”

Louis hopped out of the passenger seat and opened the door to the back seat.

Harold was about to get out when he recalled that Winnie was still in the car.

He initially planned to ignore her, but now that he thought about it, it wasn’t time to give her the cold shoulder yet. Hence, he turned around to give her a peck on the cheek.

In a hoarse voice, he said, “Be good and wait for me at home.”

Winnie’s brows furrowed. “Be careful. You should come back earlier to get some rest if there’s nothing important at work.”

“I know.” A smile nudged Harold’s lips as he got out of the car without looking back.

Winnie listened to his receding footsteps and quickly summoned Louis softly. “Mr. Tanser, take good care of him. He’s injured and needs to rest to recuperate. If there’s nothing urgent at work, tell him to come back home and rest.”

“Don’t worry, Mrs. Fairchild,” Louis assured her. “I know what to do.”

“Good.” Winnie bobbed her head. “Hurry, go after him.”

The car door closed after him, and Winnie settled back into her seat. The driver swiftly drove away.

Around an hour later, right before Winnie was to arrive at Lagune Mansion, Josiah suddenly called her.

Winnie made sure that her phone would announce the caller whenever there was a call, so she immediately knew it was Josiah.

After answering the call, she had yet to say anything when Josiah asked, “What are you both up to? Why did Xavier switch off his phone?”

“I don’t know either,” Winnie answered. “Maybe it ran out of battery. He didn’t use his phone for the past two days, so it’s normal for him to forget to charge it.”

“Hmm, that might be a possibility.” However, Josiah still felt that something was off. “Is he not with you? You sound like you’re still in the car. You haven’t arrived home yet, right? Why isn’t he saying anything?”

“He’s on his way to the company, and I’m not with him. I’m going to arrive home soon.”

“Huh?” Josiah’s confusion heightened. “Did something big happen at the company? Why would he head to work now? He should be resting instead.”

Winnie massaged her temples. “Yeah, that was what I thought, too. Nothing serious happened at work. He must’ve thought he should head there as he hadn’t been there for a few days.”

“Okay, then. He has always been a workaholic, anyway. Back at the hospital, I overheard Old Mr. Fairchild and Mdm. Beatrice talking. It seems that Mr. Fairchild is dissatisfied with Xavier as he hasn’t been focusing on work. Mr. Fairchild has expressed his dislike of you, too. Now that Xavier is eager to return to work, maybe Mr. Fairchild will change his mind about you. It’s clear Xavier is head over heels in love with you.”

As Winnie remained silent, he exclaimed, “Ms. Garland, are you still there? A penny for your thoughts. Why aren’t you saying anything?”

“What?” Winnie snapped out of her reverie. “Oh, nothing. You’re right. Mr. Fairchild doesn’t like me and thinks I’m not fit to be his daughter-in-law. He wants me to break up with Xavier.”

“Seriously?” Neither Xavier nor Winnie had ever told Josiah about the matter, so he had no idea about it.

He sounded doubtful. “That sounds serious. Is someone talking bad about you behind your back?”

“No.” Winnie knitted her brows and revealed, “He told me that personally, so it’s true. I’m not afraid that you’ll laugh at me. He’s actually worried that I won’t be able to bear children as my health isn’t well.” Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

Josiah knew Winnie wouldn’t joke over such matters. Comprehension dawned, and he blurted out, “Was that why you asked me to arrange for an infertility checkup that day?”

“Yes,” Winnie admitted readily. Hearing her answer, Josiah fell silent.

No wonder Xavier told me to keep the results a secret. He wasn’t only worried that Winnie would feel bad knowing that she was infertile, but he was also attempting to prevent his father from trying to break apart their relationship.

Josiah still had to keep it a secret, so he replied, “The results showed that you are perfectly healthy, so he doesn’t have to worry at all.”

Winnie grunted in acknowledgment before inquiring, “Have you noticed that Xavier seems different now?”

“How so?”

“There are many details. In fact,..”

“In fact what?”

Winnie’s brows scrunched up. “In fact, I think he no longer has feelings for me from the way he speaks to me.”

“That’s impossible. He loves you dearly. It must be due to the change in his voice. He could be a voice actor with his previous voice, but now he sounds like a monster. To be honest, I couldn’t get used to his voice just now. However, the damage is irreparable. You need to learn to live with it.”

“Mm. You’re right. I must be too sensitive.”
