Chapter 2088 Making Progress
Chapter 2088 Making Progress
Parking his car on the side of the road, Charles sat inside and watched the building from afar. He didn't
want to get out nor go upstairs to see Sheryl.
He waited as time dragged on, his eyes rarely checking his watch while drowning himself on the smoke
from his cigarette. At last, he sighed after finishing another stick. The sun had almost set, and the street
lights had already switched on. Finally, Charles started the engine and decided to drive away.
It was already dark when he reached the Dream Garden. Entering the house, the aroma of something
flavorsome greeted him immediately, making him aware that Nancy was making dinner in the kitchen.
At the same time, he saw Melissa making her way down the stairs.
Upon seeing Charles, Melissa couldn't hide her happiness.
"Charles, you're finally back." Smiling from ear to ear, Melissa hurried to walk towards her son.
Obviously, she was more than happy to see him.
Charles nodded. Seeing that her mother was in a good mood, he felt more relaxed.
"Mom, didn't you go out?" Charles asked, noticing that Melissa was still in her pajamas.
Shaking her head, Melissa took Charles' hand and led him to the living room sofa. Shortly after they sat
down, Melissa started with a wide grin and said, "Charles, what you did today is excellent!"
"What do you mean, mom?" Charles felt a little confused about her comment.
"Charles, I saw your press conference on TV. Upon hearing what you said, I was deeply moved. I'm
pretty sure that Sher is too. Sooner or later, I'm sure she will forgive you." Melissa couldn't hide the
excitement in her voice. No doubt, she hoped that one day, Charles and Sheryl would be married once
again.
Realizing what Melissa meant, Charles couldn't help forcing a bitter smile before replying, "Mom, that is
impossible."
"What? What do you mean impossible?" Melissa asked with an unsatisfied look. "I know better than
you do how women think. The way you spoke for and defended Sher in public, she has definitely been
moved by your actions. Soon enough, she will find it in her heart to forgive you."
Hearing how Melissa explained things just now, Charles felt a little surprised and shocked.
'Really? Will Sheryl really be moved by that? Will she forgive me soon?
Sheryl is so proud. I have made so many mistakes. How could she forgive me easily?'
Dwelling on those thoughts, Charles didn't seem to believe that Sheryl would forgive him soon enough.
However, Melissa didn't notice the dark look in Charles' eyes. She continued saying excitedly, "Charles,
you better go and see Sher and the children frequently from now on. Make sure to always find time to
stay with her. I'm sure Sher will fall in love with you again if you make her feel that you love her
sincerely. Do you understand?"
Charles remained silent. Feeling strange, Melissa raised up her hand and waved it in front of Charles,
making sure his attention was on her. "Did you just hear what I said? Why are you suddenly so quiet?"
Coming back to his senses, Charles felt sad, but he pretended not to care about it before he
responded, "I have never thought that far. Maybe I should let nature take its course. Don't worry."
"Let nature take its course?" Melissa repeated, unable to hide how unsatisfied she was with Charles'
answer. It sounded like Charles wouldn't even try too hard. Didn't he want to marry Sheryl again?
Feeling anxious, Melissa said in a loud voice, "Charles, I am serious. I never agreed with your divorce.
In particular, Clark and Shirley are too young to be living with just one parent to guide them. They need
both you and Sher beside them while growing up. I know that you have your own career. But have you
ever considered how your two children feel? If you didn't marry Sher again, what would happen to
them?"
"Mom, don't worry about it. I will take good care of my children." Feeling helpless, Charles finally gave
in to his mother.
Hearing Charles's confirmation, Melissa finally felt a little relieved. "You also need to take good care of
Sher. I know I may not have told you this before, but for me, she will only be your wife forever."
"Mom, it's actually the first time I've heard that from you." Charles laughed out loud all of a sudden.
He knew that Melissa's attitude towards Sheryl had indeed changed lately, and he also believed that
Melissa was serious about her advice. Actually, he didn't expect that his mother would be willing to help
Sheryl, knowing she had always been cold to her in the past.
Seeing that Charles was able to laugh now, Melissa felt more relieved. Obviously, he hadn't given up
on Sheryl. He looked better now with the corner of his eyes creased as he smiled.
"Charles, what are you planning to do next? You'd better send that Vicky away in a hurry and win
Sheryl back," Melissa asked tentatively as she made a suggestion.
She felt disgusted, just mentioning Vicky's name. That woman was worse than Leila. In fairness to
Leila, she was so good at pretending. But Vicky didn't even show any efforts to pretend, making her
disgusting.
Charles didn't want to hear her name either. His face turned cold as soon as Melissa spoke about her.
"Mom, I will solve it soon. Don't worry. Take care of yourself,"
he reminded Melissa, feeling worried about her. But Melissa didn't understand him. She thought that
Charles blamed her since she was in a bad mood at the time.
"Charles, are you unhappy that I have had a hand in your business? If so, I won't do it again."
Upon hearing her words, he knew that she had misunderstood him. Hurriedly, he responded, "No,
mom. I'm just worried about you."
"There's no need to worry about me. I'm as strong as a horse. What's important now is for you to bring
my grandson, granddaughter, and Sheryl back home. Do you understand?" Melissa ordered in a
serious tone.
Keeping his silence, Charles nodded at last.
Melissa felt relieved, knowing Charles always kept his promises.
"Okay. I think dinner is now ready. Let's eat," Melissa said happily. She stood up and Charles followed.
In the prison's waiting room, Rob raised his head to check on the time on the wall clock hanging a few
meters away. Finally, it was time for him to see Ferry. Shortly after, the door opened, and Ferry walked
out slowly.
As Ferry took his seat, Rob felt shocked as he clearly saw his face.
There were many wounds on Ferry's face, but they were not deep. Rob was aware that someone had
hurt Ferry recently in prison, but he didn't know as to what extent.
"Boss, you..." Rob stopped himself mid-sentence. As much as he wanted to ask Ferry about his
wounds, he didn't dare to ask anymore. He knew how Charles' men punished him in prison. Asking for Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
more details wouldn't solve it.
It would just make Ferry feel sad and ashamed.
Ferry waved his hand, acknowledging Rob's question. Ferry looked calm, Rob noticed. Even with all
the hardship in prison, it seemed that he didn't want to have these difficulties make him look miserable.
Rob lowered his head and remained silent. He tried hard to avoid Ferry's eyes. He couldn't bear to look
at Ferry, who was still acting proud.
All of a sudden, Ferry asked, "Has there been any progress?"
Rob hurriedly replied, "Charles held a press conference to announce that he and Sheryl had divorced."
"He even did that?" Not expecting that Charles would do that for Sheryl, Ferry's expression changed.
He knew how hard Sheryl tried to get rid of Charles.
Being the president of the Shining Company, Charles represented the image of their company. Both the
public and the shareholders were focused on his privacy at all times.
The secret divorce between Charles and Sheryl was big news, but Charles had been able to hide it.
Now, he made a public announcement about it. No matter what the public would say, the old
shareholders of the company wouldn't let him go easily.
'Charles, you will pay the price, ' Ferry thought, smiling coldly.
