Chapter 602
Chapter 602
Ronald's words might not seem so heavy at first, but if she listened carefully, Jane would catch the undertone. She quickly added, "Mr. Wells, I didn't mean anything by it. Winter is my artist, so of course I want the best for her."
Ronald gave a nod. "Ms. Gordon, go back and wait for some good news."
Jane's eyes sparkled at that. "Thank you, Mr. Wells."
"Don't thank me!" Charles had made it crystal clear: Winter definitely had to be at the annual meeting. Ronald could not help but wonder if Noelle was the reason behind that non-negotiable appearance.
The dinner itself was uneventful, with Jane and Suzy treading lightly around each other. Once the plates were cleared and Jane had rushed off for some emergency, Suzy lingered, her gaze flitting towards Ronald. She was clearly holding back words that were fighting to spill out.
Ronald set aside his napkin and narrowed his eyes. "Ms. Atherton, is there something on your mind?"
"Mr. Wells, why are you giving Winter this chance? If she keeps this up, she's going to skyrocket in the entertainment world. She'll..."
"Would it be so terrible for her to blow up?" Ronald challenged, his gaze steady on Suzy. "Aren't you her best friend? Don't you want to see her name in lights?"
Suzy's lips trembled as she pressed them together. Her hands balled into fists so tight that her nails bit into her palms, the sting going unnoticed amidst her storm of emotions.
How could she ever wish for Winter's stardom? She would rather see Winter plummet into oblivion, never to claw her way back up. Why else would she abandon her family's empire to stand in Winter's shadow as a lowly assistant? She was there to witness Winter's downfall firsthand.
Why should Winter's path be paved while she and Annie were nothing but stepping stones to her success?
The fire of hatred and fury blazed in Suzy's eyes a sight not lost on
Ronald. He offered her a thin smile and slid a piece of tissue across the table to her. Suzy's eyes snapped up, a mix of confusion and realization nixof dawning on her as she discovered tears had begun to trace her cheeks. NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.
Suzy grabbed the tissue, her hands shaking a little as she dabbed at her eyes. "Sorry, I didn't mean to fall apart."
"Ms. Atherton, life's about moving forward. You know what they say, 'What goes around comes around"."
"I can't wait that long." Suzy meant it. Every single day was a struggle, especially with Winter thriving.
"Great things take time. Ms. Atherton, do you want to see her crash and burn now, or would it be sweeter to watch her topple from the top when she least expects it? Which one do you think would hit her harder?"
Suzy looked up, her eyes wide with a mix of shock and curiosity. "Mr. Wells, what's your beef with Winter?" There had to be a reason for Ronald's harsh stance.
Ronald stayed quiet, just drumming his fingers on the table. "Ms. Atherton, I'll get in touch when I can. Let me know if anything comes up, okay? Remember, you're in this with me because you want to be, not because I made you."
"Ms. Atherton, you've got my word. I don't break promises. Just sit tight for some great news!" Ronald was halfway out of his chair when he spun around with a thought. "Hey, Ms. Atherton, you've got the starlet look. Have you ever thought about giving fame a shot?"
