The Divorced Heiress Is Entering a New Marriage

Chapter 63

My mouth dropped open. Dylan and Logan not only stood up to Elena for me, they also paid someone to clean up my desk so I wouldn’t have to?

The great feeling from earlier returned, along with some very confusing, very sweat–inducing feelings. I totally get the obsession with knights in shining armor now. It was damn sexy to have a man come to your rescue. Bonus points if they are as model perfect as Logan and Dylan were.

I looked in Logan’s office. He was alone in there, standing by his desk and talking on the phone. He looked up. When he saw I was looking at him, he waved at me to come in. I walked over and opened the door.

“Okay, thanks. I’ll talk to you later,” Logan said to whoever was on the other side of the phone, then ended his call. He looked at me. “I think your desk is out of commission for awhile, you’re welcome to work in here for the time being.”

I was so overcome with gratitude, between him standing up for me and making sure my desk got cleaned. up and now giving me a clean workspace, that I ran over and threw my arms around him.

Unlike last time, however, he did not hug me back. Instead, he gently pushed me off of him. I backed up quickly, embarrassed. How stupid of me. The first time hugged him was bad enough. But to do it again? What was I thinking? He was just being a good boss, nothing more. Where had my professionalism gone?

“I’m sorry,” I said, my cheeks burning.

“No, it “No, it’s…” He started.

I stopped him. “I uh…I need to grab some supplies so I can get to work. I’ll be right back.”

Logan nodded wordlessly and I turned to exit the office.

Dylan stepped out of the men’s bathroom and turned back towards Logan’s office. He paused when he saw Hazel throw her arms around Logan. He felt a twinge of jealousy. Logan pushed Hazel off of him, but Dylan caught the look on his face before he did so. This was not the face of a professional man that kept his distance from his female coworkers. This face was full of conflict mixed with desire.

Hazel walked out of the office and quickly made her way down the hall. Her head was down, so she didn’t even notice Dylan. Dylan turned from her to watch Logan. Logan stared after Hazel until she was out of his sight, then he sighed and leaned against his desk.

Dylan shook his head, fuming. He was surprised by the anger he felt. At Logan jumping in to save Hazel after he had already done so, at the way he had been interrupted by Logan when he was trying to ask Hazel out, at the way Logan looked at her. Was it not enough that Logan had everything he could possibly want and more? Why was he sabotaging this for Dylan?

Dylan had considered waiting for Hazel, but it wasn’t him that she had hugged. It was Logan, Dylan thought, his heart dropping in his chest. He turned angrily towards the elevators and left.

Logan peered around the side of his computer screen, watching Hazel as she jotted down party plans in

her new notebook. A strand of hair fell out of her bun and into her face, and she tucked it behind her ear without missing a beat. That small motion sent butterflies through his chest. She was beautiful. Sure, he had noticed before, but now it was like he was really seeing it. Like that simple hug had awoken the very thing he’d been forcing himself not to think about..

He forced himself to focus on his computer screen. He had convinced himself that he needed to let Hazel work in his office while her desk was being cleaned in order to work together more efficiently, but he knew deep down that that wasn’t the reason he really wanted her in there. A different desk outside of his office would have been a much smarter idea.

“How are the party plans coming along?” Logan asked her, giving up on trying to get any actual work done.

Hazel looked up, looking slightly frazzled. “I’m trying to write down everything I can remember putting in the other notebook as quickly as I can while it’s still in my brain.”

She was such a hard worker, he thought. That was incredibly attractive. “Let me know if I can help,” he smiled.

“I will. Thanks.” She smiled back, then suddenly stood “Actually, I would like to go out and pick out some of the decorations today, if that’s alright.”

“That’s a great idea,” Logan said. “I’ll join you.” He worried that maybe sounded a little too eager, so he added: “I have some idea of the things she might like or not like.”

Hazel looked a little taken aback by the offer. “Oh! Yeah, that would be helpful.”

I was pretty surprised that Logan offered to come shopping with me, but honestly I was thankful for the input. I didn’t want his wife to hate her own party.

Just thirty minutes after we left the office, we found ourselves in a party supply rental store. I held out four colors of table cloth swatches in front of me for him to look at. “I was thinking either a black and gold theme, or maybe something a little brighter like white and pink and gold, since it is spring time.”

Logan looked almost terrified, I’m not sure he knew what he was getting himself into when he offered to help me out.

“Uhh…” he said for an obnoxiously long time.

“What kinds of colors do you see her in most often?” I asked.

“Oh! Black. She wears a lot of black when we go out,” he said. Original from NôvelDrama.Org.

My heart sank a tiny bit at the thought of them out on dates. “Perfect. Black and gold it is,” I said, pushing the thought aside and jotting some notes in my notebook.

He watched me curiously. “Why do you keep notes like that instead of using your phone or computer?”

I bit my lower lip. “I guess it’s just a habit I never grew out of from my childhood. I’ve always liked the physical act of writing something down over typing it out.” I shrugged. “Would you prefer I keep notes electronically?”

The corners of Logan’s mouth twitched, like he was keeping a smile from forming. “No. I want you to do what is most comfortable, as long as it doesn’t affect your work. Which it doesn’t. I just thought it was

Interesting. I’ve never had an assistant use pen and paper before.”

I smiled and gave a small nod, unsure of what else to say. This was maybe the most real moment I’d had with Logan. Besides the infamous hug, and the surveillance video we don’t speak of, we both usually had our guards up around each other.

Logan’s phone buzzed, and I inadvertently looked at the screen before he turned it away. It was from Wife,” and it read, in all caps:

“WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?? I CALLED YOUR OFFICE AND THEY SAID YOU HAD GONE OUT WITH YOUR SECRETARY??? I SWEAR TO GOD LOGAN IF YOU’RE WITH THAT WOMAN…”
