Chapter 72
Chapter 72
Meredith looked confused and got up. "What's it to you?"
After that, she took her handbag and left.
Ava looked at her back and smiled strangely. Then, she walked to the most crowded spot and cried out
in panic, "Oh no, the diamond necklace sponsored by the endorser is gone!"
When the crowd heard about theft, they all looked over.
The jewelry held by Ava was priceless, not only because it was made of a few extremely expensive
top-quality diamonds, but also because it was the last work of the designer in his lifetime, which could
be called a masterpiece, so the value of the collection was far higher than the value of the material
itself.
"This is Mr. Stephen's last piece. If I lose it..." Ava covered her face. She looked sad and even cried.
When the crowd saw this, they thought she was heartbroken over the loss of the artwork, so they felt
better about her. They quickly called the security guards to help find the lost necklace.
Soon, the entire venue was sealed off. They were not allowed to leave but to enter here.
But then, everyone was at a complete loss as to what to do. They were looking for the necklace, but
how to find it became a problem. Everyone here was high-status, and it was impossible to search one
by one.
Ava cried for a while. Seeing that her goal to get everyone's attention was almost achieved, she slowly
looked up, "I'm afraid that the necklace is lost when I go to the bathroom as I take it off for a while in
case that it gets wet."
As soon as Meredith heard this, she immediately realized something was wrong. She quietly touched
the inside of her backpack. Sure enough, a hard object that did not belong to her tickled her hand...
It must have been in the bathroom. Ava slipped it in while she was tidying up her high heels! Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
Meredith's face turned pale. It was only then that she understood why Ava had come to talk to her, but
it was too late.
After a while, someone pointed at her and said, "It seems that this young lady has just been to the
bathroom, and the time coincides."
A few girls who had just been to the bathroom had already opened their bags for inspection, but
Meredith knew that no matter what, she couldn't open her bag. In that case...
No one would believe that she was innocent!
Meredith's refusal became a disguised admission in the eyes of everyone.
"Oh my god. She looks good, but actually she is a thief."
"Did she have stolen other things?"
They began to discuss her. Their disdainful expressions chilled Meredith as if she had returned to the
day when everyone had misunderstood her as a mistress.
"I didn't steal anything." Meredith took a step back, her eyes filled with helplessness and anger.
How could Ava be satisfied?
"You said you didn't steal anything. Why don't you just show us what's in your bag?"
As she spoke, someone snatched the small handbag from Meredith's hand. Meredith was holding it
tightly. The two of them were in a stalemate. Just as her bag was about to be snatched away, a cold
male voice sounded.
"What are you doing? It's really lively."
When Derek finished the unexpected work and came back, he saw this scene. He looked at Meredith's
pale face and then at the man who robbed her. "Mr. Blaise, it seems that it's not gentle to rob a woman
in public."
Mr. Blaise let go of his hand when he heard this. "Even so, this lady seems to have stolen a valuable
piece of jewelry. Mr. Xavier can't keep this from being investigated."
Stealing?
Derek looked at Meredith's helpless expression. Her eyes were red, but she refused to show any
weakness. He walked over and stood beside her.
"This lady is an employee of my company. She often comes to my office and collection room. If she
wants to steal something, why not steal there?"
"Besides, I think you all know the law. She has the right to protect her privacy. It's against the law to
search in public."
His sonorous and forceful tone calmed down a group of people who had just been angry. If it was
someone Derek knew...
"There may be some misunderstanding."
"Well, let's leave it to the relevant staff."
They immediately changed their attitude and didn't want to get involved in this troublesome matter. If
they annoyed Derek because of this, it would not be worth the loss.
The crowd slowly dispersed. Ava looked at them and her face turned red with anger. "Mr. Xavier, I know
you and my sister..."
Before Ava could finish her words, she stopped as Derek's cold eyes stopped on her as if he were
looking at something dead. She even felt that if she said something she shouldn't have said, she would
be killed by this man immediately.
"I lost my things. Mr. Xavier can't stop me from looking for them, right?"
Ava forcefully omitted the things she shouldn't have said and looked at Derek. Although she was a little
scared, she believed that Derek wouldn't be so unreasonable.
"Yes, of course." Derek said indifferently, "Since you want to find it, you can go and check the
surveillance. Maybe it was you who accidentally lost it there."
Derek said it with certainty, as if he had already confirmed it.
When the others heard this, they thought it was more reasonable and agreed, "Then go and check the
surveillance video immediately."
"Since Miss Mason thinks this has something to do with my staff, I will take responsibility for handling
this matter. Please stay here and don't panic." Derek showed his attitude toward others. Seeing that he
had taken the responsibility, they didn't want to be involved, so they left the spot.
Derek took Meredith to the monitoring room, and Ava followed reluctantly.
Ava could not help but mutter in her heart that Derek came here at the wrong time. If he were a little
later, she would definitely be able to put the blame on Meredith, and she would never be able to regain
her innocence.
"Wait a minute." Meredith followed Derek and gently tugged at the corner of his shirt as she didn't see
anyone else. "Now her necklace is in my bag. She put it in when I went to the bathroom to change my
shoes. There can't be any surveillance there."
Meredith could only admire Ava's ingenuity at the moment. She had especially found a place where
there was absolutely no surveillance video. If it wasn't for Derek, she wouldn't be able to defend
herself.
"Have you touched the thing inside?" Derek frowned and glanced at Ava, who was following behind
him. His eyes were cold.
"No." Meredith shook her head.
"Don't worry, I'll take care of this."
