The President’s Mistake A Tale of Love and Regret

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

If there was still one good thing in Freya's life, it would be Peyton, who was trotting toward her now.

Peyton was her high school classmate; anyone who could be admitted to that high school was a top student.

In her sophomore year of high school, Peyton suddenly dropped out of school.

But the two of them were not close back then, so Freya did not pay much attention. It was a few years ago when Nathaniel brought her to a clubhouse, and the two of them bumped into each other. Peyton was a bar girl, and she was being bullied by some rich young men. Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.

As the elder lady of the Gomez family, she just happened to save her. She did not even remember what she had done.

But, to her surprise, Peyton was the only one who paid her visits in jail throughout the years. Her so-called best friends and business partners did not even try to reach out and help her.

There was only Peyton.

Not only did she visit her from time to time, but she also spent her savings to save Freya's mother, who got into a car accident and fell into a coma. Because of her, her mother was saved.

"Fay, are you okay?" Peyton dressed casually, but there was still heavy makeup on her face. She had severe dark circles underneath her eyes; the customers must have been difficult the night before.

Peyton's eyes reddened as she said, "Sorry... I couldn't bail you out."

Freya grabbed her hand and slowly kneeled to her.

"Fay! What are you doing?"

She hurriedly helped her up and scolded her jokingly. "I'm not an old lady, so why are you kneeling to me? I'm too young for this!"

Peyton was making fun of her, and she let Freya sit on her electric motorcycle; they were heading toward her rented house.

Freya was holding onto Peyton's waist tightly.

"Peyton, how much did you spend on my mother's hospital fee?" Freya's voice was rough; her vocal cords were damaged. Those prison tyrants not only used cigarettes to burn her mouth; they also locked her in the bathroom and set it on fire.

"Hey, we're friends! It doesn't matter." Peyton laughed it off.

"How much was it?" Frey insisted on asking; Peyton's denim jacket slipped up, revealing the scar on his waist that was burned by the customer's cigarette butt.

Peyton paused and smiled. "It roughly cost a few hundred thousand dollars. You should take care of yourself first before returning me the money."

"Peyton, please introduce me to a job. I have been in prison before, so I don't have much choice; I can do anything!"

Freya knew that Peyton had not had it easy all these years; she was always being scolded and even beaten by the customers. She wanted to leave her job a long time ago if it was not for her.

She could never repay enough of her favor.

Her mother was getting treatment in the hospital, and it cost a great fortune.

She was willing to do anything for money.

The night fell in the Red Shift of Saeville, and Freya was forced to kneel and apologize to a woman with heavy makeup.

Freya was actually tall, but she knelt and huddled. She was really shivering because she could not afford to be fired.

She had been in prison for three years, and she had just got out of it. She knew it would be hard for people like her to look for a job; she only managed to work in Red Shift, thanks to Peyton.

"So… Sorry, I'll wipe your shoes for you." Freya wanted to use her hands to wipe off the water stain on the women's shoes.

When she was mopping the floor just now, this woman suddenly rushed into the toilet and vomited on the sink; it seemed like she had been drinking too much.

Freya was holding a bucket of water, and the woman bumped directly into her; she insisted that she lick her shoes clean.

The supervisor was annoyed as the customers here were usually rich and powerful; he did not dare to offend any of them.

The supervisor looked at Freya and scolded, "What the f*ck is wrong with you?" You're fired!"

"What's the matter?" A man asked playfully; his voice was nice and pleasant to the ears.

Everyone panicked, and hurriedly made way for that man.

He was wearing dark silver casual clothes, and his facial features were sharp and handsome. And he was smiling all the time, like a playboy.

Freya was frightened hearing his voice; she froze on the spot.

She could not contain her fears at all.

His name was Jacob, and he was from the Rivera family, which monopolized the shipping industry in Savannah. The Rivera family and the Gomez family used to be neighbors; he used to climb over the fence of the villa garden and go to play with her. She would never think that Jacob would gang up with that man to harm the Gomez family.

"Ha! Freya?" Jacob looked at the woman kneeling on the floor; she was unhealthily skinny, but he could still recognize her from her back.

He playfully raised her chin, and he looked at her face.

He tightened his grip when he looked at her clearly.

Her face is ruined.

She wanted to run away, but he grabbed her wrists and pinned her down.

The people around him changed their faces when they saw her. They had complicated looks on them.

"It's really Freya!"

"She's the one who attempted murder."

"It was rumored that Mr. Morgan sent her to jail?"

"Look at her face!" "She's so ugly with scars!"

All of them knew that Freya was not on good terms with the Rivera and Morgan families, so they all looked down on her.

Jacob looked at her and smiled dryly. "When did you get out of prison? Why don't you tell me beforehand so I can pick you up? Nathaniel might be busy, but I am not."

Nathaniel!

She trembled even more hearing his name being mentioned.

She was betrayed by her most trusted childhood friend and also by her beloved fiancé; her family was ruined; her life was far worse than death.

All she had left were fears toward the two of them.

She hurriedly broke away from his hands, and she was trembling as she looked down.

Finally, she managed to bring herself to talk, even though it was nearly a whisper. "Sorry, Mr. Rivera, I'm sorry for causing trouble for your friend!"

The woman with the water stain on her shoes kept shouting that she was his friend.

Jacob's eyes widened as he was taken by surprise. Is she still the same proud daughter of the Gomez family as she was three years ago?

He almost could not recognize her; she looked so vulnerable now.

She might be in her twenties, but she was skinny and hunched her back; it seemed like she was a dying old woman.

He somehow felt sorry for her.

The Gomez family was sinful, so he and Nathaniel teamed up to bring this family down. The Rivera family got a lot of benefits from it, and he did not expect Nathaniel to be this ruthless and cold- hearted.

After all, everyone in Saeville knew that Freya loved him.

Freya was the one pestering Nathaniel back then; she only had an eye for him.

But Nathaniel did not even care about her back then.

He coughed lightly, and he boringly waved his hand.

"Alright, everyone should leave now."

The mighty son of the River family already spoke, so all the celebrities followed him and left.

The supervisor glanced at Freya with a complicated expression.

She wanted to continue cleaning with the bucket, but a sharp pain came from her knees.

The prison tyrants snatched away her blanket back then when she was sleeping; her bed was by the door, and they even splashed cold water on it. She almost could not survive that winter, and she has suffered from severe arthritis since then.

She took a deep breath and held back her pain.

The supervisor said from afar, "Room 808 needs someone to clean up now; hurry up!"

She was in charge of that room, so she limped over in a hurry.

Room 808 was the VIP room of the Red Shift; the customers would spend more than a hundred thousand dollars per night.

The light was dim, and the room was full of handsome men and pretty women. There were a lot of empty liquor bottles; Freya was busy cleaning up the table. Suddenly, she was held by a drunken man.

"Wow, as expected of Red Shift! The cleaner here is young as well! Oh my, her face is ruined!"

The man was hugging her; she was trying to break free, and she fell to the ground when she could not balance herself.

She wanted to push herself up, only seeing a pair of shiny leather shoes in front of her. She looked up and saw that it was a man wearing tailored black trousers.

And the collar of his gray shirt was loosened; his face was breathtakingly handsome, but he looked cold.

He was pursing his lips as he sat in the middle of the room emotionlessly. Everyone surrounded him as if he were an emperor.

Their gazes met, and her face was turning pale.

Nathaniel Morgan… Here we meet again.
