Chapter 52: 52
Chapter 52: 52
" Slow down there Ansel, I thought you had a girlfriend already so why me?" Hailey lay on her bed
listening to her best friend speak.
" Yeah, I have--, I ha---, I mean I did have one."
" You're fumbling with your words hunny. Do you or do you not have a girlfriend?" she asked again.
" Alright, I do okay. But it's you I want." he turned to face her.
" You can't have two girlfriends Ansel, let me make this easier for you. I've moved on. No, I am not
seeing anyone else at the moment but I don't want to be in a relationship with anyone at the moment. I
am so sorry." she apologized.
" It's fine, thanks for being honest by the way. I'd see you at graduation day tomorrow," he added
leaving her apartment.
No more toxic relationships.
" Sunny, how may I help you?" she rubbed her eyes.
" Be expecting me in a few hours," she said via face time
" Are you on a plane?" Hailey sat up.
" Of course, I can't miss your graduation for any other thing in this entire universe."
" I can't wait to have you here. Be safe and call me when you land," she added.
" I will, bye for now." she bid her friend goodbye ending the call.
" Time to tidy up, freshen up and wait for Sunny," she said to no one in particular.
" Amelia," her grandma called.
" Just a minute, grandma." she descended the staircase to answer her call.
" Come sit." she patted the space beside her as she obeyed.
Her grandma was silent for a while before speaking.
"I know your graduation is around the corner and very soon you'd be off to college." she paused.
" All I have to tell you is to be careful of the friends you make out there. I know Lauren and Rita would
be with you but being in a new environment changes people..so be careful whom you trust and call
friend," she advised.
" Thanks, grandma, you've been my rock and my shield. You've been there through thick and thin and
there's no way I would let you down, never," she promised.
" I hope you remember your words and keep to them. What of Zayn? Is he going to the same college
as you?" she inquired.
" Yes, grandma...he is."
" I've got to talk with him then," she chuckled.
" Grandma, which talk?"
" The talk," Trudy laughed at her confused granddaughter.
" Grandma, I have a question...who's going to take care of you when I am gone?" she asked the
question that had been bothering her since she entered her senior year in high school.
Her kids were all busy in the city, both with work and their personal lives. And the woman she knew
didn't like to be a burden on others. But she was ageing and she needed help to do some stuff. She
had weak knees and couldn't stand for long.
" Amelia?" Trudy called for the third time. Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
" huh? Oh yes, grandma...were you saying something?"
" I was saying, don't worry much about it. I'd be fine." she smiled at her.
" Bu----
" No buts, right now you focus on your finals and ace it. When that bridge nears we would cross it,"
she told her walking off to the kitchen.
I hope so grandma.
" It's good to have you here Sunny, " she offered her a glass of water.
" Thanks, there was no way I was missing your graduation. By the way, how's Ansel?" she inquired of
him.
" He's fine."
" Is he still dating that girl?" she probed.
" Of course he is. He even wanted to date me in addition, with the excuse that he was leaving her for
me. I told you I wasn't interested."
" What if he was dumping her for you? Did you consider that?" she asked again.
" Honestly speaking, Sunny I am sick and tired of these toxic relationships. I just want to focus on me
for now, the right one would come along," she explained.
" If you say so." Sunny agreed.
" How's my brother? I hope Soraya and my parents have stopped pressurizing him to come work for
them?"
" He's fine, just a little busy. It's been a while I heard him speak of it. Maybe they gave up." she stated.
" That's great, and how's work as well?"
" Work is fine, a little stressful but fine." she smiled.
" Enough of work, let me see your outfit for tomorrow's graduation." Sunny requested.
It's a surprise.
Sunny finished curling Hailey's hair. She had already done her make-up and she was looking unny
hadn't yet seen her friend's dress and she was anxious.
" It's time to see the dress,"
Hailey stepped into her walk-in closet. She took the red silk-like mini wrap dress off the hanger and
wore it. She looked beautiful, absolutely breathtaking. She took her red Evelina pearl ankle strap heels
from her shoe rack and walked into the room with the shoes in her hands.
" How do I look?"
Sunny turned to face her friend at the sound of her voice. She looked gorgeous. She opened her mouth
wide staring at her friend.
" You'd catch some flies in your mouth," Hailey teased.
" Ha! very funny. Babe, you look stunning. Congratulations baby girl! You made it." Sunny hugged her.
How she wished she had family come to support her on her big day. But it seemed everyone was busy
and she was grateful for Sunny's presence.
" We gotta get going so we don't run late." Hailey was reminded to wear her shoes and graduation
gown. Sunny picked her clutch and that of Hailey's which had their phones in it. They rushed to the
door and headed out of the house locking the door behind them.
" Who's that?" she asked her friend noticing a car parked in front of the apartment.
" I don't know," Hailey answered wearing her favourite perfume. Keith opened the door of the car and
came out of it. There was no way he was missing her graduation for anything else in this world.
" Keith?" she said surprised as she rushed to hug him.
" Hey babe," he hugged her.
" Why didn't you tell me he was coming?" she pouted.
" Then it wouldn't be a surprise no more, come on we're running late." Sunny cautioned as they sat in
his car and he drove off to campus.
