The Substitute Bride: Idiot Or Not?

Chapter 51

"Winnie? Winnie, are you listening to me?" Jacinta urged when she heard nothing from her granddaughter.

It was then Winnie snapped back to her senses. "I'm here. I'm listening, Granny. Ignore Xavier. He'll surely get together with Yulissa in the future. You must remember this well-stay away from that Yulissa White."

"All right, I got it. But that woman's evil. She nearly killed you. Are we going to let her go like this?"

"Of course not." Drug trafficking was a dangerous matter. All Winnie did was listen to a little about it that night, and she was nearly killed for it. How could Winnie possibly drag her grandmother into something so fraught with danger like this?

"Shouldn't we call the cops and have them arrest her now?" Jacinta suggested.

"Granny, this matter is a little complicated, and we don't have any evidence for it yet, so now's not the time. Leave this aside for now and just try to find out more about my cousin."

"All right. I'll go with your plan. I'll call Xavier now, and I'll tell you when I have news."

"Okay, the sooner, the better. I have lots of important information on that laptop."

To not delay her granddaughter's serious affairs, Jacinta decided to start work that night.

Both of them proceeded to discuss the matter further over the call.

Jacinta said, "When I called Xavier, I heard a woman talking beside him. I'm guessing that it was Yulissa. It seems like he won't be returning to Lagune Mansion tonight. It'll be a good time for us to go there." "That's great." Winnie was already putting on her makeup in front of the mirror. "I'll start preparing now."

At half-past seven in the evening, Winnie was ready to meet up with Jacinta at Lagune Mansion.

This time, she had disguised herself by aging herself twenty years, and she had a pair of glasses resting on her nose bridge as well; she was pretending to be a distant relative of Jacinta-one of her nieces— in Avenport.RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only

Mary was the one who came out to greet them when they arrived.

Although Mary was rather familiar with Winnie, she did not realize that the other woman with Jacinta was Winnie in disguise.

"Mdm. Sumner, please come in. Mr. Xavier has already informed us about your visit. We've left Mrs. Fairchild's things as they were, so they're still in the master bedroom and in the playroom. Please allow me to lead you there."

"It's fine. I know where the master bedroom and the playroom are, so don't worry. I won't take anything that doesn't belong to Winnie either, so you don't need to keep an eye on me. My granddaughter's missing, and I'm only here to keep away the things she used to use. Having you watching me makes me ill at ease, in fact."

"Ma'am, you've misunderstood me; that isn't what I mean." Mary gave her an apologetic smile. "I didn't mean to keep an eye on you."

Jacinta intentionally pursed her lips and frowned. "So, can I go upstairs myself?"

"All right." Mary had no choice but to nod in agreement at that. "Please don't hesitate to let me know if you need help."

With that, Winnie and Jacinta went upstairs.

Winnie did not care about her clothes in the master bedroom at all. What she cared about was the laptop she left in the playroom. Nevertheless, to not alert anyone to their plan, Winnie asked Jacinta to pack up in the master bedroom as she went to the playroom herself. After easily finding her way to the playroom and getting inside it, Winnie went to turn on the lights.

However, just as she closed the door behind her, and before she could even switch on the lights, someone hugged her from behind.

The body size and height of the person behind her told Winnie that the one rushing out and pinning her against the wall was a man.

Furthermore, he was a man who was drunk and smelled like alcohol.

The man's breath was hot, and his hands were roughly wandering into her shirt. The hot breaths he blew on her ears were so scorching it could have lit her on fire. "Winnie. Dumbo, are you back? I couldn't find you anymore, so have you come to my dreams?"

Is he insane?

After making sure that the man behind her was Xavier, Winnie decided not to scream, for she would attract the others over.

But why didn't Mary say that this d*mn man's here in the mansion too? And he's in the playroom, of all places! Didn't Granny say that he was with Yulissa at this time? Why is he here? "Let go of me!" What Winnie hated most was for someone to ambush her from behind. It did not help that she had been pinned against the wall, making her unable to move an inch.

Nevertheless, Xavier was already drunk out of his mind. Thinking that he was dreaming, he kept touching and biting her frenziedly.

As he lowered his head to kiss her, he mumbled under his breath, "I'm sorry, Dumbo... I know I've done wrong now. I shouldn't have pushed you away from me. Come back, please. I want to hug you. I want to hug you so tightly."

"Hug my foot!" Winnie struggled with all her mind. "Have you lost your mind? Get your dirty hands off me! You're hurting me!"

"It hurts? Dumbo, my heart hurts so much... Can you please come back? Please, I beg you!"

As Xavier said that, he went on one knee to press against the crook of Winnie's leg before raining kisses on her.

By then, the side of Winnie's cheek and neck were all sloppy wet, and she was about to explode like a volcano.

However, the man was completely off his rockers, and he was not listening to her at all.

A while of rumination later, she decided to change her methods.

Despite getting pinned to the point she could barely breathe, she managed to mutter, "Handsome, it's Winnie. Can you be gentler and let go of me? You're hurting me so much."

Winnie spoke to Xavier in the dumbo Winnie's tone, and to her surprise, it worked.

Xavier actually loosened his grip on her as he began kissing her more gently.

"You're Dumbo. You're my Dumbo." Xavier turned Winnie's face toward him in a delayed response. His tone even softened as he said, "You're back. You're finally back."

Just then, the moonlight shone into the unlit room.

When Winnie turned around, she saw Xavier's face.

His eyes were watery and red as if he had cried.

When he called her Dumbo, he sounded as if he had found a long-lost person he dearly loved.

For a moment, she felt as if she was the man's entire world.

But shouldn't his entire world be Yulissa White? What kind of act is he putting on?

"Dumbo, you don't look the same anymore, but you're still my Dumbo." Xavier could recognize her voice, and that was Winnie's voice.

Then, he lowered his head and leaned closer to her again.

"Go to h*ll!" Winnie was absolutely speechless. I can't believe he's trying to kiss me despite knowing this isn't what Winnie looks like. This isn't how a man drunk on alcohol acts; this is how a man poisoned by alcohol acts!

Without further ado, Winnie gave him a ruthless kick.

Xavier was a tall drunk man, and he was barely balancing himself. The moment Winnie kicked him, he fell.

With a muffled groan, his head hit the floor, and he stopped moving.

Winnie held her forehead and stared at him. She was quite certain that she had heard the sound of bones cracking earlier.

Therefore, she was starting to wonder if she had broken any of Xavier's bones.

This is so f*cking troublesome.
