Chapter 5, Crow Family

Umm.... You guys must be greatly mistaken, Ms. Scarlett. My name isn't Mr. Crow, but Sett Crossword. I came from the Crossword family of Darian City. I don't know anything about the Crow family, so please let me go." Sett blurted out nervously that as much as he wished to look at Ms. Scarlett's assets, he had to leave, as who knew what this stranger would do to him?

"Don't be nervous, Mr. Crow. Rest assured, we aren't a hostile group, as I'm sent by the Crow family to be your aid."

"Do you even know my background? Why do you keep insisting that I'm Mr. Crow? " Sett smiled warily.

"Because you are." Scarlett confidently said. The look on her face implied that she was absolutely certain of it. Sett's mouth twitched. Was this sister joking with him?

They should investigate him first before jumping to conclusion that he is the so-called "Mr. Crow" or something.

He took a deep breath as it was already past seven o'clock and his sister at home would be worried sick about him.

"If you don't stop the car, I'll call the police." He put on a threatening face to look more convincing. Then he took out his phone, but deep inside he was panicking as Scarlett merely smiled without any sign of concern.

"You and the president are very identical, Mr. Crow." Ms. Scarlett smiled faintly, then began flipping through the documents on her lap.

Suddenly, Ms. Scarlett's countenance turned severe and her voice solemn. "Sett Crossword, the young master of the Crossword family, that's not it. Since you were exiled from the family and stripped of the

title as the family heir, you are now considered an outsider of the Crossword family. Your parents also experienced an unfortunate accident. According to the reports, everyone calls you useless and fat.... Ahem, let's proceed... At the age of eighteen, you married the Laurel family missus and became the son-in-law of the Laurel family. Yet for some unknown reason, they changed their mind... From people's speculation, the Laurel family wanted a divorce."

Sett's face turned green. Did you guys just abduct me to insult me? Are you guys so bored and want to make fun of me? Am I right?"

He was rumbling, but he thought of something. "It must be my Aunt's orders.... No, that's impossible. She won't be able to afford these luxurious cars, and these men are all foreigners."

Everything was confusing, and he was already out of options. Earlier, he had considered tackling Scarlett and using her to force the men in black to let him leave, but he had a strange feeling that if he did that, he would regret it.

With his observant eyes, he could immediately tell that Ms. Scarlett was no ordinary woman. She must have trained. Her long, slender legs had fine muscles.

"If you don't do what I say, I'm going to kill myself." Sett felt idiotic just saying that, as only a lunatic would use his life as collateral, but he had no choice. This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.

Since these people seem to be after him, and it looks like his identity was important to them.... With that in mind, Sett gritted his teeth as he prepared to bash his head on the glass.

Different from her previously calm demeanor, Ms. Scarlett's pupils dilated as she hurriedly stopped Sett's idiotic action.

"Don't do anything stupid! Alright. You win, Mr. Crow, but please cooperate with us first." She cracked a wary smile while raising her hand in surrender.

'That actually works?' Sett felt embarrassed.

"Apologize to me first if you want me to cooperate then!" Sett was still holding a grudge.

After all, it did hurt his feelings that the Laurel family was planning to divorce him, though it was merely speculation.

"I sincerely apologize for what I said earlier, Mr. Crow. It was my mistake. Please forgive me. Please?" Ms. Scarlett steps forward, a breath away from him. Her pretty blue eyes look pitiful.

"A-Alright." Sett felt awkward.

Then Ms. Scarlett opened a box she was holding and presented it to him.

Sett's eyebrows almost hit each other as he saw the content of the box. It was a cellphone that he couldn't recognize, but he was sure that the phone was not common.

Just then, the phone rings. Sett was skeptical about the whole situation, but he still answered the call anyway.

"Hello?" Sett said over the phone.

"My grandson!" An amicable old voice could be heard on the phone. "Grandpa misses you...."

Sett's eyes twitched, but despite being speechless, he didn't interrupt the excited old man who continued to speak on the phone, like some kind of chatterbox.

"Grandson, it's our first meeting... although it's only on the phone, don't worry, Grandpa here has a gift for you. My secretary will give it to you later."

"I don't really ne--"

"Don't be hasty to deny my gift grandson, as this is your only way out to help your adoptive parents in the hospital. Though, you don't need to worry about that. I've got that all covered! What's important is that you are going to inherit the Crow family business in the near future! Aren't you happy? I'm really proud of you that you'll be like me, my grandson!"

Pah! Does this old man think he's an idiot? Does he think he would believe what the old man was saying?

"Whom are you trying to trick, old man? What do you mean, I'm your grandson? I don't even know you! There must be a misunderstanding here. My last name is Crossword. My father is Charles Crossword and my mother is Isabella Crossword, so it's impossible for me to be your grandson!" Sett explained that he didn't have any intention of allowing this misunderstanding to continue, as that would result in more complications.

There was a long silence before it was broken.

"Looks like Jane hasn't clarified things for you." The old man's somewhat tired voice could be heard on the phone.

Sett glanced at Scarlett. Her expression was unreadable, but he quickly dismissed such thoughts as he noticed her palm trembling slightly.

"Grandson, your biological father's name is Mathew Crow. He was supposed to inherit the family business. But alas, he had a severe illness...." The usual cheerful voice of the old man turns unfortunate.

"...At that time, your mother was also giving birth to you. However, because of the grief after losing her husband, she soon followed your father in the afterlife... If you still don't believe what I said, my grandson, I've got something for you to watch. Jane."
