Chapter 48
“So Kristin…doesn’t have a clue, huh? How messed up does her personal life have to be to not know who fathered her child?
“Isn’t it all thanks to you guys? The FitzGerald family and the Turner family know how Summer came to be and why Kristin ended up in some stranger’s bed. To wreck a woman, you pulled out all the stops. Now how dare you ask me about Summer’s dad? Garner was ticked off.
“Mr. Collins, you’ve got it all wrong about Mr. FitzGerald. He’s never done anything to you folks. Frankly, he’s above that sort of thing.” York said, a bit heated, coming to defend Rhett.
Garner snorted. “For the FitzGerald family, it’s all for one and one for all.
“Even if Kristin was played to have Summer, how can you not even know who the guy is?” York asked angrily.
Garner couldn’t be bothered to explain to York and turned to find Summer.
Just then, Rhett came out holding Summer.
Garner went over and took Summer from him. “Thanks for today. Mr. FitzGerald. I’ll pay your back and just give me a deadline.”
Rhett frowned, thinking how alike Garner and Kristin were in their stubbornness.
“The FitzGerald Group has a charity foundation. Summer’s situation qualifies for aid. I’ve already had York take care of it. His treatment at this hospital will be on the house.” Rhett said coolly.
Garner paused, then spoke in a low voice. “We don’t need charity from the FitzGerald family…. I’ll pay you back in two months. Thanks, Mr. FitzGerald.”
With that, Garner left with Summer in his arms.
Summer lay on Garner’s shoulder, his eyes shining as he gazed at Rhett.
He really wished that Rhett was his dad.
Rhett wanted to say more, but at the sight of Garner’s strong defenses, he let it be.
“Did you find Kristin?” he asked York.
York shook his head, replying, “Kristin didn’t get her ticket with her ID. In a city as huge as Silvergrove, if she’s looking to lay low, it’ll be like finding a needle in a haystack.”
“Who hit Summer?” Rhett asked.
“Clarence went to Garner’s garage first this morning. Likely, they also torched the place, and Clarence… well, he hit Summer,” York said, clearly upset. Kristin’s beef with the Turner family and Vincent was deep, but that was no reason to take it out on a kid.
Wasn’t that what any sane person would think? What did the child do wrong? But Clarence, in

“Dad… Kristin ran away,” Clarence said as he entered the livegrosa signty teos.
“Ran away? Didn’t I order people to take her away? How did she magne asked sternly.
Clarence darted his eyes around before he spoke softly, “I went over to Garners place to find her, but she wasn’t there. I had some guys rough up Games maybe that scooked tent
Clarence’s intention that morning was to drive Kristin away, if possible she could run away and never come back to Silvergrove City. Coming back would mean certain deam
Johnnie was indeed out for blood.
“Clarence, remember Ruby is your real sister, Mamie reminded him, choking up.
“So I suggest we look for a volunteer donor first. Once Ruby’s health improves, we can still make Kristin pay. She’s in hiding now, and we can’t find her. If we delay Ruby’s treatment that wouldn’t be good.” Clarence tried to calm Johnnie and Marnie.
“Hmph, her life is there for Ruby, Who else would we use? Mamie disagreed. “The doctor said Ruby’s body is too weak for transplant surgery right now. We still have time. Within a month, we must find her.”
Clarence was silent, then nodded after a while. “Alright, I’ll make sure we catch her.”
“Bad news. There’s trouble at the company,” the assistant ran in. “The FitzGerald Group suddenly pulled out of the project with the Turner family in Chicago. They withdrew their Investment, and now our funds are stuck… Everything else is manageable, but if the workers” wages are cut, it’ll delay the construction period. If so, the penalty…
There would be beyond the tolerance,
Johnnie went through a whole contortion act as he eyed Clarence. “The FitzGerald Group? Can
you go check if they’ve lost their marbles? Our family and the FitzGerald family are practically in–laws, Ruby’s engaged to Vincent. Which blind bat at the FitzGerald Group would dare to sever ties with our family?”
“It’s… it’s the CEO, Rhett…” The assistant took a deep breath, barely getting the words out in a
whisper.
